I cooked 4 pounds of pork shoulder and pork belly in the 6-quart Instant Pot Pro for 30 minutes. The recipe called for 10 minutes of natural release. But with this accessory, the natural release finished all on its own after just nine minutes. Even after seven minutes in the broiler, the pork was still tender and juicy! Made an amazing sandwich with some pickle slices, onion, and horseradish sauce. It came out at least as good as any pulled pork sandwich that I've gotten at a restaurant or BBQ joint (and for a lot less money). This tray will pay for itself pretty quickly, IMO.

Better than using an ice cube. It works as intended.

I love that I can put this on the Instant Pot and the cooling effect is almost immediate! It works well for starchy foods such as oatmeal, so I don't have to wait for the natural release to prevent the ooze from coming out the vent and making a gooey mess on everything. I like to cook oatmeal and then get the pressure down as fast as possible to open it, add raisins and then re-cover. The raisins then plump up in the still hot mixture without cooking in it and turning it an unappealing brownish color.

I just got a new instant pot pro (love it) and wanted to try this quick cool feature. I make a lot of chicken broth with my instant pot, before using this it took about 25 minutes to naturally depressurize. I tried using this with the water trick (pour about 1/4 cup of water onto the lid before you put this on) and it depressurized in 9 minutes! A 16 minute savings!

HINT UP FRONT: Want to cut your natural depressurization time in half? Use this Instant Pot QuickCool Tray.EVEN BETTER HINT UP FRONT: Want to cut THAT time in half AGAIN? Pour a teaspoon of water on the surface of the Instant Pot lid where the Instant Pot QuickCool Tray sits, THEN place the frozen Instant Pot QuickCool Tray on it, such that it easily skates around a little on that cushion of water.WHY? Because that little bit of water becomes a CONDUCTANT that fills the gaps between the imperfectly flat surface of the lid and the imperfectly flat surface of the Instant Pot QuickCool Tray, and water is WAY more thermally conductive than air.TAH-DAH!!!Newbies may ask, What is so great about NATURAL depressurization? Why not just throw the depressurization valve and be done in seconds? The answer is: TEXTURE. Sudden depressurization is violent at the microscopic level, and it damages fibers and networks of coagulated proteins. If you think this is a form of tenderization, it isn't; it makes the substance LESS able to hold moisture and gives it a mealy texture and mouth feel.Natural depressurization gradually and continually brings down the pressure in the chamber, allowing fibers to stretch rather than snap. Everything from meats to chickpeas to the most delicate lentils preserve the mouth feel you want to achieve.

I knew this very cool contraption was going to be available, but why I waited so long to order it I’ll never know! It is a fabulous aid in helping pressure to come down faster so dinner is on the table sooner!

I can appreciate the other reviewers comments regarding how this should have been included with the Instant Pot. However, focusing on how well this performs I am giving it 5 stars. I have used it several times since purchasing it a couple of weeks ago, and can attest to the fact that it significantly reduces release time. I use my Instant Pot for quick weeknight meals, and an extra 20 minutes makes a difference for me. If you have more time, then it may not be worth it for you. But I think it should be judged on its merits. It works well, it solidly built, and eay to use.

When I bought my Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus last year, I was curious to try the quick cool tray right away but found out Instant Pot hadn't released it. Finally, it is here and I am happy to say it works even better than I had expected. For those who use stove top pressure cookers, you know that you can put your pot in the sink and run cold water over it to release pressure in about 30 seconds. Instant pots obviously don't let you do that because of the epectrical components. This tray is super convenient in that it can just live inside your freezer and you only take it out when you need to use it. pretty much a specially shaped ice pack.So far, I have used it to do a quick cool for: Kraft Dinner, Chick Peas, Rice, Lentils, Tomato sauce. In the 10 uses or so far, every quick cool has taken between 4-5 minutes. To my astonishment, I have NOT needed to adjust the cooking times on any of my dishes. I figured the longer resting time would cause things to cook longer, thus, need some trial and error to adjust the cook times. So far that has not been the case. I have even used it 3 times in 1 day with ice still in the tray. I have not yet tried it for stock or soup, but I imagine it may take longer to release with dishes like that. One of the best advantages to using the tray is that when cooking starchy foods or foods with dairy, you eliminate the risk of messy quick releases. So the lid is ALWAYS much easier to clean. I hope Instant Pot incorporates all their future models with this tray.

Really gives the chance to have a safe, quick release of pressure, similar to what you could do with a non-electric pressure cooker by running it under cold water. Great for things like soups and grains and keeps you from having a lot of splatter inside the pot lid. You just fill it and keep it in the freezer. When it defrosts, you put it back, no need to re-fill, as the water stays inside. Highly recommend it if you have an Instant Pot that works with it. I have two Dual EVOs, one 6 L and one 8 L and it works for both.

I've been awaiting this accessory for several months after getting my 8qt Duo Evo Plus around Christmas.I've tested the quick cool feature without the tray by simply putting 2 ice cubes (the max liquid it will hold) in the spot on the lid and, while messy, it does significantly shorten the time for natural release. I was anticipating even better performance from the actual QuickCool tray since it can hold significantly more volume. The tray itself is well constructed with an aluminum base for quick heat conductivity upon which rests a silicone bladder for holding water or ice cubes. It feels very solid and I have no worries about it falling apart any time soon. The brief instructions on the box inform you to either fill the bladder with water and freeze for a few hours or, if you're in a hurry, just fill the bladder with ice cubes. For testing, I went with the freezing water method. I then filled the instant pot with 2 liters of water and pressure cooked for 5 minutes, noting the amount of time it took from the end of the cook cycle until the pressure valve dropped. The results:Normal Natural release: 23 minutes, 19 secondsNatural release with QuickCool Tray: 11 minutes, 2 secondsBy the time the valve dropped, the solid block of ice in the tray had become slightly warm water, so it does transfer quite a bit of heat through the lid. It did significantly decrease the time for the release, however it was a bit below the advertised "70% faster". All in all, is it worth the $10 for this accessory? My answer would be: Maybe. If you cook a lot of soups and stews that make a mess when using quick release and hate waiting around for the 20+ minutes that a natural release takes, then this may be for you. Honestly, I think this accessory should have been included with the Duo Evo Plus in the first place.
