Every thing is perfect its a wonderful starter kit. It was good supplies but the only problem is the vice the threads just stripped so fast! Other then that its a good kit.

I’ve been fly fishing for 15+ yrs and this was my first time tying flys and I have to say it was very frustrating and disappointing. First off everything you need is included in the kit with an instructional booklet on how to make around 10 different flys. The problem with this kit are the tools are very cheap and the thread constantly breaks. I was able to tie the first fly, which was a Green meanie with the thread breaking about 7x. The second fly which is a streamer I could not tie, because every 2-3 turns the thread would break. For a kit that is supposed to get you into enjoying fly tying you would think the quality would be a lot better instead of making it frustrating so you don’t wanna tie flys. I would not recommend this kit to anyone I would definitely search for a better quality kit.

Update:The threads on the vise that hold the vertical rod tight stripped out. I was not cranking on it but simply trying to make the vise not wobble. This is a tool designed for a few uses and then it will fail. I didn't expect an heirloom piece but wanted something that would at least last long enough to tie enough flies to use up the materials the kit came with. Stay away from this kit.Wanted to get into fly tying and this was a sponsored ad under fly tying kit. I chose this one as they are a Pennsylvania company and I'm in PA.Pros-everything you need to start tying.-a good amount of materials to make many flies.-instruction manual which will guide you threw a few flies.Cons-tools are a bit rough.-vise is so so. It wobbles in mount and a bit of Lube helped as the parts fit together a bit loosely.-beads included in kit do not fit the hooks per the instructions.I tied the first two flies in the manual. I think they came out well considering I have never tied a fly before in my life. The first one does not have the bead as a head as mentioned in con's.Do you buy this? I don't regret it but if I did it again I may have opted for a better vice and ordered the materials I wanted for a specific pattern.

I'm ~25flies into my career and decided to move from loaner gear to mine and this is a great kit to start your supply of odds and ends. Vice is solid, the bobbin I did a little work on to smooth it out. I will add that I absolutely needed a magnifier and light to complete my "kit" but that's clearly not included... but if you are looking at this as a kit or gift I consider it essential for the over 40 group.

I've examined this kit and it seems to be decent quality. I have yet to tie an actual fly with it, just haven't had the time, but I will update when I do...particularly to test the bobbin the other reviewer says does not work. As you can see from the photos, this kit comes with a myriad of materials to get you started, and it also includes instructions describing the included tools as well as detailed instructions with pictures for tying the following popular flies; Green Weenie, Mickey Finn, Hare's Ear Variant, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Wooly Bugger, and Mathew X Caddis. The pics and instructions look excellent and should be very helpful for novice tyers. I enjoy fly fishing, but have never tied my own flies, so I'm very much looking forward to learning and will update when I do.

I’ve been playing at fly tying for several years now with borrowed equipment so this kit has now got me setup with my own gear. I’ve found some of the pieces to be a little rougher than the borrowed stuff I was using. I don’t know how these compare in cost, it could have been the borrowed stuff was all top of the line. Still, it works! The included instruction manual is very complete and I’ve tied several different flies. The kit includes more materials for more flies than I had accumulated so I’m still getting the hang of it all. I classify myself as a beginner and for me this is an ideal setup. I’m using this with a 5 inch magnifier with a light in it and it’s absolutely the best combination around. I’d recommend the magnifier to anyone thinking about this hobby. Very pleased with the completeness of the kit although I’m sure I’ll find something else I “need” on my next visit to the Orvis store. Highly recommend.

After 20+ years of fly tying I had to see what fly tying “beginner’s ” are getting into. For the price this kit isn’t bad at all. Vice is legit and holds a variety of hooks. The tying materials are decent. The bobbin is not so good. The bobbin cuts the thread and I highly recommend getting a different bobbin right off the bat. Otherwise you will quit fly tying before even starting due to frustration and the thread cutting every minute. If they could change out the bobbin to a decent one this pack it would definitely be 5 stars.

The tool quality was so low that I could barely finish two flies. The bobbin tool has such sharp edges that it constantly cut my thread, making it unusable. The adhesive had basically glued the cap shut before I had a chance to open it properly. The cap shattered into pieces. The vice has a choppy action when tightening, making it difficult to get a solid grip on the table. The tools are so cheap, they work against you. Stay away.
