I needed to thread a 304 Stainless steel, 10mm OD/6mm ID tube via AliExpress to upgrade my Ryobi power washer wand, which is made from very weak aluminum.I went for an Irwin die as Irwin's taps and dies have proven performance and value per Project Farm on YT, who can be relied upon for a comprehensive and objective raft of tests.I particularly liked this hexagonal die as it can be used with a regular 1" socket and I didn't have to buy a die T-handle.I found 304 is not an easy material to machine. I tapered the end of the tube to help, after many failed attempts, but it still took forever to get the thread started; much cutting fluid, end loading and twisting! In the end, it took an hour, and an aching hand, to cut the 1 inch of thread I needed! Once finally started, the thread cutting wasn't too bad, but did require continual backing off after just an 1/8th, or at most, a 1/4 turn to break off the chips. The die, at the end of that effort, was pretty blunt and some cutting teeth were chipped.Unfortunately, I needed a thread at both ends of the tube. So, another Amazon order and the second die arrived a couple days later.Like the first one, getting the first thread started was a real chore, even after an hour's practice with the other end! I actually thought I wasn't going to get the thread cut this time, but persistence is my middle name and eventually, I got the die cutting into the tube and finished the 1 inch of M10 thread. Again, about an hour or so and an aching hand.This particular die seems to be in usable condition this time, though I don't doubt its cutting performance is reduced. It'll be good for threading softer materials and definitely for thread cleanup.The actual thread quality cut on the tube was excellent, with very little rocking of the lock nut, which goes on before the quick-release couplings are threaded on. I now have a fully functional steel wand that won't fatigue within 2 hours of waving back and forth, right at the end of the thread, like the aluminum OEM aluminum.I had intended to make two steel wands. Ryobi sent me a second power washer as they had no wands as spares under warranty. However, I don't want to be bothered wrestling two more threads! I'll just swap my home-made wand around.I can definitely recommend this Irwin die. Any other brand and I might not have finished!

Worked well on hardened exhaust threads. Nut did chip chasing threats, but as I said, the threads where hard.

I love these types of dies. You can use them in very tight spaces with a socket and you don't need to have a normal die handle on it. Well worth the money for the job I used it on.

Used to thread the end of a drawbar for a lathe collet chuck . The cut threads matched up perfectly with the threads in the chuck. Just be sure you start it straight.
