When you have these stubborn areas that water seems to pool on wood and the entire plank needs replacing due to one small spot of rot, this is the thing you need. It is amazing how well this stuff works! Has held up now all year through hurricane and snow. Want to use in ever spot now!

I have used many of JB Weld's products and always find them to be effective. I purchased this to repair some rotted window casing I discovered when prepping my trim for fall painting. My first impression is that the putty is dry but it does hold together. It does not smell and it's kind-of fluffy feeling. The gloves they include in the box are completely worthless but the little scraper was very useful. You can add a little water to the putty to make it more pliable but be careful and don't add too much. My experience was that it is best to knead it without adding any water. If it's too crumbly, add just a couple drops. If you add too much, it makes the putty difficult to work with because it will stick to your gloves more readily than it will stick to the wood. The putty is easy to apply in a large area. Where it gets difficult is in the smaller spaces like sun damage cracks and voids. It tends to pull itself out when you try and smooth it down. It helps to squirt a small amount of water on the top to smooth it out but only do that if you are done spreading it. You don't want the wood surface wet because the putty won't attach. In my experience, it's better to leave it shaggy and sand it down.Anyway, it worked. I had used Elmer's wood filler on the cracks a couple years ago and that was a complete fail. My impression is that this epoxy product is superior in every way. Time will tell.

I honestly prefer the abatron product but it’s often twice the price.I used this product after soaking the rotted wood with abatron liqui-wood. Products appear to be compatible. I think the liquiwood or a similar product is essential to stabilize the surrounding wood.I used approximately two gallons of this stuff this summer to repair rot that was 3”-4” deep under some windows along front of my house. Alternative would have involved rebuilding 30’ of wood paneling and windows, so I’m glad this stuff exists. This jb weld product dries to be sandable overnight though sometimes I used a heat gun in the morning to complete the cure. Sanded surface was smooth, the material is extremely tough and primer went over it well. Much much faster than rebuilding with new wood.I let the material puff out of the hole slightly, then sand flush once it is cured. I used a 1/4 sheet detail sander and 120 grit paper to prep for primer. I wiped with anhydrous isopropyl before applying aqua lock acrylic primer, final coat was Benjamin Moore latex. Can’t tell repair occurred, the jb weld looks better than the cedar.

Purchased this product as wood had rotted out under the window adjacent to french doors and abutting concrete patio. Significant area to fill in between patio and window box (approx. 1 x .75 x 24 inches). Mixed a healthy amount (be sure and get extra rubber gloves as mix ony comes with 1 pair of light plastic) and it was very easy to mix (need hand strength to knead) and easy to roll out between hands to push into 'trough'. Filled in nicely. I had to change gloves out periodically to get a really smooth finish on it. WARNING: It does start to set within 15 minutes (starts getting hot) and after 30 minutes you can't really work with it anymore -- so work quickly. I got the trough done and it was easy to smooth with just fingers. Have not sanded and painted it yet, but it cured really hard and didn't pull away from the wood or from the cement patio, as advertised. There were nails under the window in the trough and we could not remove them, so this product was the perfect solution. It filled in around the nails and sealed to the wood and concrete. Photo to come. I would highly recommend this product. How much should you order? I used about a quarter of each of the 34 oz. buckets to fill in the trough measurements above. I initially mixed half of what was in each 34 oz. bucket, but ended up having to throw half of that mixture away as it wasn't needed (the extra in the bucket eventually cured rock hard too). Since you have to mix the two parts, I'm hoping that the extra in the tubs will store well for other jobs we may find.Clean up was easy as leftovers do turn rock hard -- so most of it is in a chunk. I used a white platic paint bucket and only had small patches that stuck (can scrub off with some elbow grease). It does readily stick to itself, so you can use some to clean up bits if it's still pliable. If you do use your hands, they will be very sticky and it will take you some scrubbing to get it off (I ran out of gloves to finish it, so used my bare hand -- it sticks to hands pretty well).

I really like this stuff. I have read reviews that struggle with mixing or applying this putty. I guess that I have a lot of practice and have used different versions of J-B Weld Epoxy and now I have needed the wood restore product to replace areas of wood in quite a few places in our home. When it sets - it is much firmer, denser, and sturdier than other wood putties because it is "Epoxy"! There are just a few tricks to its use. I use nitrile gloves to both mix it and apply for a small amount. If I need more, then I mix it in a container but the gloves are much easier. I use a putty knife to apply the putty to gaps in wood whether on a corner or on a flat surface. To make sure adhesion is occurring, it helps to really smash the putty against the surface being filled because it is dense but it will stick! If it doesn't pull off, then it has stuck. Usually it is possible to get the material somewhat close to the desired contour but it sands well if not. If the areas is quite large, then several layers will be beneficial. Then the material won't be setting with the result of fighting with it. The material adheres to itself as well as the wood. Once set, it can be drilled, sanded, painted. It will NOT rot! If you live in a humid climate and have to stay on top of exterior wood, this material is a huge help.
