I can confirm the play head is stereo and the unit does play cassettes in stereo. The radio seems to pick up pretty well but I tested with an fm transmitter and was not getting stereo sound with radio, only mono. I wanted this for cassettes so this really doesn't bother me. The unit does have a little amplifier hiss in both the cassette and radio modes but it is very minor. I use my own headphones, the included ones are very bad. There is a hole on the back of the unit covered by the belt clip that allows you to adjust the cassette playback speed. You will need a very small flathead screwdriver with a long, thin neck to reach the dial through the hole. The cassette playback is actually very good. When using a well recorded tape it sounds great and seemed to send a good amount of power to the headphones. My only complaint it that the play button does not give an affirmative click like the other buttons, and when pressed it stops basically flush with the side of the player which does not feel good to me. I would absolutely recommend this player for cassettes.

for the price it's good, it sounds like a portable tape player, I got it to listen to books on tape that I've owned for years while I walk my dog. I put it in my fanny pack and it just fits with all the other things I need on my walk, mail key, poop bags hand sanitizer and my phone. The tapes would absolutely sound way better on my old boom box from the 00's or even my hotdog radio from the 90's but they were designed for that. I have bought several tape players and they all SUCK so much and break easily , but I decided to take a chance on a portable one. I was glad to have it and it was very light weight which at first I was worried about but it seems sturdy enough and it hardly adds any weight to my fanny pack, in fact it weighs less then my phone! I'll try to update when I've used it for a while! 4/12/21

If you’re considering this product in 2020 & beyond, you’re probably looking to convert some old audio cassette tapes that you have around the house. I found a whole stack at my mom’s house, and agreed to help her convert them. I looked at some of those devices that you plug a flash drive into and it converts the tape into a file automatically, which would be ideal, but they all received such terrible reviews that I figured I’d be better off buying this product instead, and handling the conversion myself.I chose this product because it has a line out port, which is what you want for the best possible conversion quality. The line out port ignores the volume nob so that you can record the tape in what is essentially the original audio level it was recorded at, and then adjust it later if you need to. You can connect the line out on this device to the microphone in on your computer or you can use a dedicated recording device, which is what I did since I happen to have one, but my computer would have worked just as well. Keep in mind that if you have a modern Mac or PC where the headphone/microphone jack is combined into a single port, you will need a TRRS converter, but these are cheap and easy to find. The number 1 piece of advice I can give anyone looking to use this device to convert tapes is to buy an AC adapter (power cord) for it. It doesn’t come with one, and I didn’t think it mattered to run the thing off of AA batteries, but I was getting all kinds of crazy speed inconsistencies out of it. I was expecting it to slow down when the batteries depleted but it basically just consistently gets slower from the point you insert new batteries, as they deplete. It’s totally unusable. I was going to return the thing, until I bought the AC adapter and all my problems were solved. That said, as far as I can tell, they don’t actually sell an AC adapter, but it says right on the device that it requires 3V DC, so I bought this universal adapter, hoping that one of the heads would fit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZWU5L0CIt works great, and was pretty inexpensive. Plus, nice to have around the next time I need a power adapter since it supports so many different voltages and connection ports. The other complaint I have is the lack of a rewind button. One of the other reviewers said they didn’t think it would bother them but it totally did, and I completely agree. I didn’t think it’d matter but it’s actually really annoying to have to turn the tape over and fast forward just to rewind the other side, not to mention the fact that the fast forward is so freakin slow you may as well just play the tape! The audio quality was fine, I think as fine as these tapes ever were. I’m not converting music and neither should you (unless it’s your own band, higher quality versions exists on literally any other platform), but tapes with recorded voices. It’s nice to have the memories, especially of some relatives who are no longer with us.Overall, this is a cheap product, but you’re not going to find a non-cheap cassette player in 2020. If that’s what you need, I‘d try eBay, but if you just need to convert some old tapes, or maybe just see what’s on them before you throw them out, this product will do just fine.

Let's be honest, for 15 dollars you're not getting the holy grail of music devices. I bought this to play the cassettes ive begun collecting lately, and for the most part it works. Ive used it all day and I only have a few comments:1. The speed is iffy. everyone said that out of the box it played way too quickly and they needed to adjust the speed. I did not have this issue however occasionally my tape would play really slow. Let me tell you, I love me some Freddie Mercury but bohemian rhapsody played at half speed is terrifying. I just hit stop and play again and it fixed itself though. If that doesn't help, the speed control is located underneath the belt clip. A small screwdriver will have it all fixed up.2. The sound quality is better as the sound increases. It sounds best at top volume but usually leaves my ears ringing.3. It sounds the absolute best in the Audio Out port, the only issue with this being that you can't adjust the volume at all if you're plugged into it. Someone else mentioned getting headphones with a manual volume control, this seems like a great solution4. There's no rewind button. I didn't think that this would bother me this much, but it doesSo in closing its great for a few bucks. Just remember that we've been spoiled by streaming at your fingertips these days. Cassettes in general suck at audio quality, but hey it's all part of the nostalgia right?UPDATE after 3 days OF MINIMAL USE it no longer plays my tapes. It plays everything at half speed even though I tried to fix the speed on the player through the hole in the back. Its trash
