Hello, my lawn is in Zone 7a so we definitely go through seasons. Black Beauty Ultra and likely the OG Black Beauty as well is so much better than ALL of Scotts brand grass seeds. Scotts grass seeds (no matter what type the label says) is basically ugly fescue that is incredibly sparse and fragile but worse it turns brown when the seasons get cold and takes a long time to turn green. Plus no matter how much over seeding I do with Scotts grass seeds so many weeds jump in and start to take over. As illustrated in the attempt at a comparison photo (which doesn’t do it justice) there is a patch of Black Beauty Ultra that has stuck around and is green all year round! And Black Beauty is so lush and green it doesn’t let any weeds in.We had a overhead patio addition built and during the process I tilled up most of the Black Beauty to level it back out and plant new grass seed. I saved a few bucks choosing Scotts over Black Beauty Ultra but the results are sparse brown fescue that lets in all kinds of weeds! IMHO Black Beauty Ultra/OG is worth the little bit of extra money, relative to Scotts grass seeds, as it gives you the lawn you desire! I highly recommend this product!!

I was having difficulties getting Scott’s seed to germinate. I then switched over to Black beauty ultra and my lawn came in very quickly and thick.

I bought this in the fall and used it after over seeding and aeration. It only took around 10 days to see new grass and it filled in nicely over the next couple of weeks. The fact that some of the roots will grow to a depth of 4ft holds promise for some drought tolerance.While this seems expensive, I found it to be a bargain due to the quality of grass varieties, the quick germination, and growth rate. The guy who mows my lawn even stopped me to comment on how nice this grass was.

21 days after seeding, both overseeding and covering bare spots (added light straw layer). Kept lightly watered if it didn't rain and absolutely nothing has grown!! Ridiculous.

Way too much crab grass. Clumps of grass growing inside the sealed bag. Not happy with this expensive grass seed

I thought this was great quality seed. I used it for my lawn renovation this fall and basically was starting from clay soil only and during a September drought. I watered by hand 2x daily and saw sprouting in about 10 days. However, I overseeded a few weeks after my initial spread and during that time we got some rain. I saw germination in 4-5 days. So it truly depends how moist you can keep your soil. They seem to be doing well now without constant water and a lingering summer heat. Only time will tell ( spring ) how it goes long-term.

I have two different results! My first time it barely grew the second time I watered the lawn every day and it did well the second time I!
