I previously got a Karinear similar to this but with a third burner. The third burner diverts too much power away from the other burners. By this one only being two, it's much more efficient with its power and can heat my pans more effectively. I still wish it was faster, though maybe I'm spoiled by having cooked on gas and induction for most my life. It'd be nice if Karinear made an induction cooktop like this; I think they would be good.

We live in Central Florida and storms knock out the power to the houses all the time. We have a generator that runs on gas so we can keep at least a few things running. Like fans during the evening or this cook top during meal time. While I know that a cook top is not required during an emergency, it does help us to feel a little bit more normal when things aren't going right.The cook top heats up quickly and cooks just as well as my normal glass cook top on my oven. It is a little on the heavy side but nothing more than you would expect for something like this. The buttons are easy to use and responsive. I haven't had any issues with the amount of power it takes to run or the amount of power it puts out. It will work plugged into a generator and for a disaster kit it was a good value. So far so good.

DISCLOSURE: My wife and I wanted this as an 'emergency' back-up, as we have an aging stove that (prior experience has shown) is just bound to fail us when we need a functioning stove the most.(The Thanksgiving morning at our former home when the oven chose to die convinced me of this)However; I certainly would/could not wait for an emergency to check this Portable Electric Stove top!We cooked an entire dinner last night, after plugging this in sitting on top of our existing old stove.From the pork chops to the macaroni--with the pork & beans in between--this state-of-the-art unit delivered everything at least as good as the old stove.In fact, this is easier and provided better fine control and safety elements than the old stove has.With the touch controls and the 'HOT' warning light; and the rapid heat-up/cool-down this was a smoothly operating cooking device.It has a nice weight to it as well-I had wondered if it would be too lightweight, being billed as 'portable'-- but the unit is very stable, very solid.The instructions were well laid-out, and comes with appropriate items for permanent placement anchoring --if that is what you are planning to do.One last note of appreciation; it arrives very securely-packed, with ample protective material and inside a thick, staple-reinforced shipping box.Overall; an excellent cooking unit to have on-hand.
