Best cutters out there for big musky fishing hooks

These are amazing. Used to build a no climb fence. Regular cutters would not have cut it (literally)

A must have when out horseback riding in the bush and need to cut barb wire. A very powerful wire cutter

Bought this to cut fence clips. After 2 days the tip busted off. Quality seemed good and should be for a $50 nipper but did not stand up to heavy use. Very disappointed!

Hands down THE BEST mini bolt cutters I have used. They make quick work of wire that lesser products struggle with. These bolt cutters are very heavy duty - the cutting edges remain aligned and true after heavy use with thick, hard wires. There is no twisting or flattening/dulling of the cutting edges like the cheap stuff. The handles/grips are very comfortable, virtually eliminating fatigue and blistering with prolonged use.

I do a lot of fencing with mainly 2.5mm high tensile wire. These are the best pliers on the market because of the ingenious leveraged design. While these pliers can cut the heavier 4mm mild steel wire (8 gauge), we use "ezi pulls" mainly for cutting such wire (a New Zealand designed pliers that cut wire, pull out staples, and crimp-join wire.I have a pair of 71 31 200 knipex, but we find them not as suitable with the leverage gap at the back of the jaws being designed for the heavier 4mm wire.A word of WARNING. Because the jaws are hardened, DO NOT twist the pliers while cutting. The jaws will chip. My teenage daughter managed to do that with my last pair cutting 2mm mild steel (lacing) wire. I had them for 4 years and the jaws were perfect until then. Any such damage comes from poor technique, not inferior workmanship of the pliers.

These are very high quality German made cutters. They cut through virtually everything with ease and show no signs of dulling. The jaws mate up perfectly. Highly recommended

But I wish I'd have ordered the ones with the little notch that holds round items into the back of the jaws better. The cutters will deform slighty if you attack the wrong screw or small bolt though, some sheetmetal screws are pretty tough.

Just received these 12/15/2014. Immediately grabbed some 11.5 gauge chain link fence fabric which is what i got them to cut. They did a fine job. I do not have any 9 gauge wire available right now which is a much harder test. It did exactly the same job on the 11.5 gauge as my 10" channel lock side cutters. No better, no worse. The tension I had to use with my hand is approximately the same as far as I could tell, using both cutters. This is by no means a long term definitive test of this product. The steel in these may outlast the Channel Locks, I don't know. The 10" channel locks I use for a couple of other purposes. These are strictly for cutting. One advantage is they are smaller - the Knipex is 8" long and the Channel locks are 9.5" long. Yes - I measured myself. Channel locks are just barely heavier. Lastly the Channel locks are fully 1/2 the cost of the Knipex. Right now I would recommend the Channel lock side cutters (lines mans pliers) over the Knipex, but I reserve the right to provide another review after i have used then for 1 year under the same conditions that i use the channel locks.

I keep these in my tackle box to cut fish hooks. They are small enough to get where you need them, but will cut hooks easily. I have been able to save some fish that probably wouldn't have made it if I didn't have these. Regular wirecutters are too soft, and will just deform right around the hook. I highly recommend them.

I've cut steel wire, aluminum wire and copper wire probably over 1000 cuts in all and they still function beautifully. I considered getting the more robustly padded ergonomic cutters, but these fit well in my hand. The price tag had me doubtful, but my hand and wrist are very happy to have the extra leverage and solid cutting power of the Knipex.
