Good tool but if you don’t need the locking feature, then buy the model without the locking device. I purchased both but there really wasn’t a need to buy the one with the locking device in my situation. If you need the locking feature, then it does work well.

Knipex Quality except for tip easily dislodged. Also the rigid nature of these hose clamps makes it in-versatile for maneuvering inside awkward positions typically needed for hose camps. Being a huge KINEPEX fan it was difficult for me to return these. However, I could not justify the expense for the quality when the item was 80% unadaptable within a huge engine compartment of a 2007 Lincoln navigator working on a 5.4 L 3V. And when the metal tip tooth came dislodged that was the end.

Had to change the water pump, on a 2006 Dodge Durango Hemi. These worked very well. It would have been a lot harder with out these. 4 stars because only used for one job, I will pass these on to my son.

I was initially relucent to make the investment in the locking version, but I have been surprised at the versatility of such large pliers. The lock can get in the way sometimes, and for that reason I am going to purchase the non-locking set.Highly recommend for Scandinavian and Japanese auto repair.

Replaced my water pump and hoses on an older vehicle recently. I purchased these because I was tired of busting my knuckles using channel locks. I had a friend helping me who laughed at the price but saw how much time and aggravation these saved, he went out and bought himself a pair. They work, and they save time and more importantly they save on frustration.

Love the locking mechanism helps to push the hose clamps out of the way with out putting a lot of effort in to trying to hold the pliers!

If you're replacing all of the coolant system hoses, these specially-designed pliers are a godsend. Yes, at around $90, they aren't cheap. But they are the SINGLE BEST TOOL I have EVER used to remove steel clamps from automobile engine coolant hoses, especially large, radiator hoses. You can try using ordinary pliers or channel locks. You may very well injure one or more fingers using those primitive tools. The first time you EASILY remove a large steel hose clamp with this extremely high-quality custom clamp removal tool without injuring yourself, it will suddenly become apparent to you that this tool is worth every single penny. One of the best, highest-quality tools I've EVER used and owned! The ONLY difference between the 85 51 250 and the 85 51 250 AF is that the AF metal is dark-colored, while the non-AF model is a gray-colored metal. That's it!
