The Korg MA1 Digital Metronome is a compact metronome that solidly covers all the basics with a broad tempo range and a rich variety of beats and rhythm patterns. The MA1 metronome also shows the beat in an innovative way that makes practicing easier. With stylish design and reliable functionality, this is an indispensible rhythm training aide for any musician. With the Beat-Counting display, the number of triangular icons in the display indicates the specified beat. On each beat, the icon color changes (moving from left to right), indicating the current beat of the measure in a way that's intuitively clear. This provides visual cues as to when measures will change a helpful advance over metronomes that provide only an audible indication. The tempo of the Korg MA1 can be set using one of three methods: increase or decrease the tempo using the standard increments familiar from a mechanical metronome (pendulum steps); increase or decrease the tempo in single-step increments over the full range of 30-252 (full steps), or use the Tap Tempo function to enter the tempo by pressing the switch in time with the music. Practice a wide variety of songs by specifying any beat count from 1 to 9, and choose any one of the eight rhythm types: quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets (straight triplets, triplets with inner beat omitted, triplets with the third beat omitted), and sixteenth notes (quadruplets, quadruplets with middle beats omitted, quadruplets with the third and fourth beats omitted). Sound Out mode on the MA1 metronome produces a reference pitch (selectable over an octave C4-B4) that you can use when tuning nearly any instrument. The frequency of the A4 reference pitch (calibration) can be adjusted in 1 Hz steps over the broad range of 410 Hz to 480 Hz. The MA1 metronome is designed for long battery life, with continuous operation of approximately 70 hours when using zinc-carbon batteries, or approximately 290 hours when using alkaline batteries.

Favorite one. It is small, loud, works great. You can change the time signature on it, the tempo, and more importantly, it teaches 8th notes by playing extra fast for students and then you can slow it down..

Does everything you’d need from a metronome and does it well. Also really like how compact it is. I love Korg products, they are always very dependable.

Great. Very easy to use. And very portable. The batteries though are triple A, two of them, so they don't last as long as the lithium ones. But I very much like the metronome and tuning capability. Now if they could make me sound like Leo Brouwer, my work is done.

This metronome is a great value! It offers many excellent features that are easy to use. It can capture a tempo that you tap in, and then start clicking that tempo. It can be set to swiftly change the tempo by pendulum steps, instead of single digits. The automatic shutoff is invaluable - no wasted batteries. The available beat patterns and visual display are excellent. The volume and beeping sound is OK for most purposes. The only improvements I would suggest are a thinner profile, and recessing the volume button a little less to make it easier to adjust.

Works great. This is the metronome my son's school wanted the beginner band students to get. Amazon's price was as usual, cheaper than the music store, and I am happy with my purchase. He had a different metronome a few years back that you couldn't adjust the volume on, so this is nice to be able to make it louder during percussion practice.

I ordered a blue MA-1 to replace my trusty red MA-1 I've had for years that finally kicked the bucket, though to my surprise a blue MA-2 showed up.Thankfully both models offer what I need in a metronome, though I ordered a MA-1 because it much more pleasant on the ears compared to the MA-2's ear splitting high pitched tapping noise. It's still usable since the MA-2 also has adjustable volume, it's just not as enjoyable to use on a day-to-day basis. My 1-Star review is only because I received the wrong product, I think the MA-1 is the best metronome in its price range and would get 5-stars otherwise.Since the price difference between the MA-1 and MA-2 is around $10 and the MA-2 is still usable, I decided it's not worth the trouble of returning and instead wrote this review.

This metronome has great features and is compact for the price, but I wish the description had been clearer. This metronome does not make a "clicking" sound, but rather a beeping sound with two tones high for beat 1 and low for the following beats. For setting and getting a tempo with my band, the tones are quite annoying. I am going to return this and hopefully find a small/cheap metronome that clicks, even if I have to give up on some of the fancy beat counting and tempo tap features.

The Korg MA-1 is a solo metronome with a range of 30 to 252 bpm. The metronome's timing is accurate. It also has twelve reference pitches for tuning. The best selling point of this metronome is the tempo tap feature. This allows you to tap the tempo button with a beat, and the metronome will automatically set the bpm. This feature worked great. This metronome can help you with any beat you may come across. It contains rhythms for triplets, which I immediately found useful. The LCD also has a graphical pendulum which assists in keeping with the beat, as well as a counter that tells you which beat you are on. The accent beat can be set from 1 to 9, or set to 0 to turn off completely, useful for counting measures. The adjustable volume control and headphone jack work well. The built-in speaker isn't very loud, however. The little stand that pops out of the back is a perfect little addition. Most people will probably be content with a metronome app on their smartphone, but if you want to be on the beat consistently, nothing is more accurate than a hardware digital metronome. The Korg MA-1 is a good choice.

I bought this through Amazon, and am in the process of returning it.I own the Korg MA-30 and it is GREAT!This was (suppose to be) an upgraded model with more options. What I didnt like about it was:the On/Off button did not work well - it sometimes would turn on, other times it would not, had to press it at least twice to get it to power on and needed to apply more pressure to the small rubber button the 2nd and third try... yikes (possibly just mine did this?)the features didnt seem much better to me than the MA-30... yes it had a chromatic tuner (C through B... C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, etc all twelve tones) but who cares, I dont need it for thatThe pendulum gave a few options more than the MA-30, but no better (to me) then the MA-30. MA-30 works fine the way it isSo the MA-30 (again) works fine the way it is, and Ive NEVER had any problems with it (powering on, etc). Also: the MA-30 when powered on also starts the metronome, when you turn it on it also starts the metronome. The Korg MA1BL Visual Beat Counting Metronome however has an on/off button as well but AFTER you power it on you then have to press a separate button to start the metronome. Starting this metronome is a two-step process. The MA-30 starts when you power it on, one step. Of course there are other options to us than just a metronome on the Korg MA1, but again, I dont use or need those features (chromatic tuner).I thought this would be an upgrade and a nice addition, but not soI am returning it (dropped off at UPS today) and hopefully Ill get a refund soon!I LOVE AMAZON, and as Ive said before, if I can purchase from anywhere, first go to would without a doubt be Amazon... they are THE BEST!Not their fault this particular purchase didnt work out!I hope this review helps...summary:power button was sketchy, "upgraded" features not much to brag about, MA-30 works just as good (better in my opinion)hope this review helps you decide!good luck and happy practicing
