My husband was totally against the watered. Complained about the installation, blah, blah, blah. Said he had to come up with a fitting because something broke or leaked. I don't know, but it works great. Did not take the horse long to figure it out. I want another one for my newest horse. He doesn't, but we'll see...lol. There is nothing for the horse to push. If the horse drinks, it fills up. I had one about 30 years ago that had a paddle the horse had to depress. It was a little easier to clean. I hate a horse trough! My horse is a pasture horse, but dhe comes to the barn to drink out of her bowl that is attached to a pole and has a hose connected to it. We live in Alabama, so we'll have to see how it does if the weather gets cold enough to freeze as it sometimes does.

I ordered two of these. I've had them for about 9 months now and they leak no matter what I do (and my friends call me Macgyver) . One leaks from the outside connecter (which by the way sucks to try and connect a hose- I highly suggest some quick connects if you still think you should get this item after reading this) and the other continually fills because even when the float is all the way up, it can't stop the water from coming in. It is hard to mount because the screw holes are behind the guard so you have to take the whole thing apart to mount. Cleaning it is also obnoxious because you have to have pliers to tighten the drain plug enough so it doesn't leak in two places, but because mine is down low for the animals, I either have to fumble for forever to undo it or get down in the mud (because it leaks) to see to unscrew and clean. The only plus is us that the green bowl actually seems sturdy so if you want a sturdy, but leaky bowl, then this is for you.

First one bought was what we thought was the best find, We were right!! NO MORE STAINLESS NO MORE RUSTY waterers, that rust out in 3 to 6 years. For the first one we bought we had to make some adjustments because our water came out on the right and the connection is on the left. Made it work, less than a year later we replaced another one that was fairly new with rust. The Second one we bought our connection was on the left so it was easier to install in less than 30 minutes. I am selling the spare stainless ones I keep in barn for replacing. One problem is we can not understand why the flap is stainless steel. Hope we can replace just the flap if this one starts to runs. Other than the metal flap this is the BEST little stall waterer I have ever used in like 30 years. I say buy this one (well water doesn't hurt it) you will not be sorry. Fast shipping had in 2 days 5 stars, and I don't get commissions LOL.

Sturdy plastic--won't corrode like our metal ones. We lifted off the metal plate and put it in front of the 2 knobs on the bottom of the bowl, so that I can lift it up to clean. Perfect, simple design. I like the green much better than black, so that I can see how much crud there is to clean. Buying more to replace the disintegrating metal ones I have for my alpacas. Perfect volume--enough for them to drink, but not so much that you waste water when cleaning.

So far I have bought 4 for my rescue cats. It is the perfect size. One float didn't seem to be working. I had a plumber install them but it is easy enough for anyone to do. He installed an L shaped pvc pipe attached to a pvc ball valve underneath where the drain plug is so I didn't need to reach under to empty. I can switch the valve on and off from the side and the water releases fast. We found one of the floats didn't stop the water and overflowed. So he came back and found some debris in the mechanism and cleaned it out but it still overflowed. We then discovered that the float itself was set too high so that it hit the back overhang of the unit as the water filled and that kept it turned on. You need to make sure that whatever level you set the float at that it is allowed to rise and stop without hitting anything or it will keep filling and overflow. Works fine now. Noticed that mosquitos love to breed in my other water containers but haven't seen any in these yet for some reason. I flush to clean each day anyhow just in case. Some cats seem to love to clean their little paws in it. Once I get the funds I will buy 3 more. It is piece of mind to know water is always available here in the extreme heat of the desert for my cats and neighborhood strays that stop by. (I put one in an area strays have access to.) So I am real happy with this purchase.

Bought three of these, and one had a leaky float out of the box (thus the 4 star rating). I was able to find a replacement on Amazon, but still disappointing with regard to initial quality. Otherwise, since then, all three have been working great. Be aware that these do have an upper limit on the water pressure into the unit, so I recommend getting a pressure regulator if your water pressure is high. I used the Camco 40055.

love it works great.i use it for my chickens .best part is the drain.easy screw in and out from the outside no putting your hands in the water like others.hole is large enough to drain quickly and float is easy to adjust.if you want water to fill entire bowl just hold float down with your finger other wise it will fill about 3/4s of the way up.i have had mine about 6 months now and there durable.cant go wrong with this one its a keeper.believe me drain is the most important part on one of these.i have read other reviews on others and thats how i came to buy this one because i saw that it had an easy screw drain.chickens are messy and dogs and horses and goats tend to either druel or get dirt or feed in the water and the elements rain and leaves and dirt can also result in needing a fast and proper drain so that water is always clean and fresh.
