Ordered this with the idea in mind to use it in the reservoir of an espresso machine. I modded the reservoir with a float valve of conventional design, little balloony floater thing and all, and plumbed it into the kitchen cold water valve using John Guest valves, tees, 90° elbows, and PTFE tubing. That setup worked very well, but the float was inhibited somewhat in its movement by the suction and return lines going into the reservoir. Hence the idea of using this neater, more compact and self-contained unit to automatically keep the reservoir full and my coffee habit addressed.OK. So this valve arrives and looks tidy, neat, and suited for the job. I got some 90° 3/8" FPT x 1/4" tubing push-fit elbows and used one to hang the float valve on the edge of the reservoir. Cute and satisfactory."So," you ask, "what's your beef?" See the photos below to see how I fitted this to the reservoir in the espresso machine, but, also, and importantly, look at the photos showing the condition of the filter screen in the float valve when it arrived. It hadn't been used at all. The crud in the screen was there when it arrived. Looks like it was tested with some really sediment-laden water. Can't come up with another explanation. This really gave me some concern about the overall hygiene of the valve. Was there more crud inside? Or did the screen at the inlet do a good job of keeping the inside of the valve clean? Don't know. I elected to try it in the espresso machine reservoir anyway, and, functionally it seems great. As is often the case with Chinese plumbing fittings, the male threads on top on the inlet leaked, despite the associated elbow having been supplied with the valve. Five wrappings of teflon tape sealed that up nicely. BTW, the 90° elbow? Is it also stainless?304 stainless is generally non-ferritic, i.e. not magnetic. After cold-working, forming, etc. it can become very slightly magnetic. This valve and the associated 90° fitting are HIGHLY magnetic, so, if they are stainless they might be 430 or 409. 430 and 409 are more susceptible to corrosion than 304. No certification of indication of the parts being lead-free.

This is a decent float valve. I had some leaking issues at the connection point when I first set it up. The primary issue was related to tightening the connection enough. I had issues grabbing on to the valve to get the connection tight enough. I ended up taking the cover off the valve and using pliers on the plastic inside to hold while I tightened the connection. It damaged the plastic a bit, but otherwise, I was having major leaking issues. It would be great if there was a better way to tighten the connection.
