All you “technicians” having trouble with the pipes cracking I can give you 2 tips.1) don’t cut brittle 20 year old pipes with this, just dig a bigger hole and use both hands with your regular PVC cutter...2) score the pipe first, ratchet the unit down until the point goes into the pipe a few millimeters. Then rotate the cutter until you have scored a tiny line into the pipe, then ratchet down as fast as you want.

This works really well on anything 1" or smaller. For a 1 1/2" pipe you have to first work the cutter blade back and forth across the pipe a few times. Then it cuts well.

My first impression of these cutters is good. They seem to be good quality, my only concern is with the spring which returns the blade to the open position. It is easy for it to detach from the blade especially when removing the tool from a tool bag. It is not to hard to reattach the spring but this is still a bit of an inconvenience.

I'll start out by saying I'm a great fan of Lenox Blades for my Sawzall and Hacksaws, they always seem to have the best and longest lasting blades. Granted they are about double the price, but for the longevity, it is worth it.I bought this tool for two reasons--the blade release function and the reputation of a quality tool, especially the blades. Boy was I wrong. The blade release jammed the first day, and after two days of cutting PVC, the blade had huge divots in it. OK, I thought, must be a bad blade, and I was glad I bought a replacement. It takes about 30 minutes to replace the blade and after another hour cutting PVC, the replacement blade also had the same divots. This tool is junk. No better than a $15 Chinese el cheapo brand at Home Depot.

Pros: Very well built, solid, sturdy construction. The blade is shaped so that it bites into the pipe (a far better design than straight blades). Blade is replaceable. With 1 1/4" PVC pipe and smaller, this tool rocks.Cons: I usually use two hands to cut 1" pipe, but I don't know how that could be improved. And even though it says it will cut 1 5/8" pipe, I found I couldn't cut a 1 1/2" PVC Sch 40 pipe with it (I can cut 1 1/4" pipes and below with it).Bottom line: After using this tool, I will never, ever buy a cheap $10 cutting tool at the home improvement store again. I'll take one of these over four of those any day!

They worked amazingly for a the first few months. Then when my coworker was using them he somehow chipped the blade right at the point and now they crack the pvc when cutting. If I could just order a new blade for them I would give them 5 stars. The quick release works amazingly well.

This is a good quality cutter. This is made in Taiwan. You need to check out the Rothenberger ROCUT 42TC 52000 Plastic Pipe Shears, it is almost identical to the Lenox. The Rothenberger is made in Spain. The Rothenberger has an extra bend it the cutting jaw that makes cutter smaller pipe (like 1/2" CPVC) easier. The rubber grip on the top handle of the Rothenberger is sticky, where the Lenox is just a rubber grip. Other than that they about the same tool. We bought both of them and they both work good.
