As a brass player who mostly plays woodwinds in my home studio, I'm happy with this mouthpiece. It fits the horns I own, has a clear, bright tone, and feels "natural" and comfortable. A more experienced player can probably coax more nuanced qualities out of it, but for someone like me, it's a good choice. The detail taken to ensure decent quality, performance, and finish are evident. This is a great value.

I had actually bought a premium mouthpiece for my alto sax, but it didn’t come with a ligature and cap.I ended up getting this just to pillage the cap and ligature for the other mouthpiece. Perfect fit on a fairly standard alto hard rubber mpc.I’d say highly recommended for a the cap and ligature - both very decent quality. Worth the price for this purpose alone. The mouthpiece is surprisingly good. It has a square chamber and has some characteristics of a Selmer S80 C*. I literally was expecting to never use this, but I just had a fun practice session with it and it actually screams on my Selmer Mark 7 alto in the upper register. Wow! So much fun.My Selmer S80 C* and Meyer have a little more fullness and flexibility to their tones, particularly at the lower end.For only ~$12 at the time of writing including a cap and ligature, this is a KILLER deal.Note that there was a very mild defect in the fit and finish - there was a minor indentation on the inner curve of where the reed covers. Maybe it's the spot where they do the molding. It sounds fine in spite of this.

If you are just getting into Saxophone playing and looking for a budget replacement mouthpiece this may be a good option. However, if you're anywhere near a intermediate to advance player this is absolutely not for you. The mouthpiece material quality feels and just doesn't produce good quality tones when you're used to using a quality name brand mouthpiece. Yes it does play but you won't achieve the tonal perfection you're seeking as its just off.

A bit of background on me: I am a lifelong multi intrumentalist specializing in jazz fusion, and have been playing the saxophone for about 5 years with another 20 odd years of guitar, 10 years of keyboard/piano... You get the idea. :) I love music.I was OvERJOYED to see this little kit cross my Vine Voice feed because I'm always looking for new mouthpieces to check out and see how they stack up to the "gold standard" whether that's beginner, intermediate, or advanced. That being said I won't be comparing this to my $120 mouthpieces, obviously! But, spoiler? I probably could. So quality wise, the only issue I found was that the ligature is a bit stiff initially. You may need to have someone help you unscrew it the first time, just to loosen it up a bit. You don't need to loosen it very far though - just enough to slide your reed on. Just give it a few turns back and forth until it doesn't feel like it's fighting you, and you should be fine here. The tip opening: I'd say it's comparable to the Yamaha 4C, maybe a *tiny* bit smaller, but I don't have a micrometer to check exact tip opening. That said, as far as playability, it absolutely plays like the 4c which again, I consider the gold standard for student mouthpieces.Where this differs from the Yamaha 4C is in tone, at least to my ear. If you're not familiar with the expressions "Bright" and "Dark" they're terms used to describe a saxophone sound. The "darker" a sound is, the closer to a classical feel it tends to be associated, while a "Brighter" saxophone sound is generally associated with jazz, rock, and pop. A better description might be trebble though.Anyway, I noticed a strong brightness or "High" brassier edge on this mouthpiece than I do on my 4C, using identical reeds (Rico Jazz Selects with a French cut). Air pressure between the two felt almost identical, but while the 4C gives a fuller, fatter tone, this feels a little thinner, but stronger in the brightness. I'll try to remember to record some sound samples, and link to them in this review, after I've had more time to get to know this mouthpiece, but, upfront,, if you're a student looking to change up your sound from your Selfer C* or Yamaha 4C, or you just don't want to pay another $30 for a mouthpiece cap and ligature, I strongly recommend this kit. Now, for a funny story: I was initially going to do my A B comparisons with this mouthpiece and my old 4C using a synthetic reed that I've had for oh, about a year now. The idea is that a synthetic reed doesn't really adjust itself or "marry" to a specific mouthpiece the way natural reeds do, owing to it being synthetic, but when I slapped that reed on this mouthpiece, it sounded absolutely horrendous.I couldn't get a decent sound, it kept jumping in register and honking like I'd sat on an angry goose. So I grabbed one of my Jazz Selects and put it on there, and this mouthpiece SANG. Morbidly curious, I slapped the synth reed on my 4C and, sure enough, back to honking like an angry goose! The reed had gone bad on me, and I just didn't realize it until I tried to use it coincidentally with this new mouthpiece. So, if you get a new mouthpiece, and it honks or squeaks, try another reed first! :)

I purchased this mouthpiece, cover, and ligature set for my daughter, a beginner saxophonist, and I found it to offer good value for its price point. The emphasis on affordability is evident in its build quality, making it an ideal choice for someone just starting out. The mouthpiece, crafted from durable plastic, feels sturdy enough to withstand the learning process without causing concern if it needs replacement. The ligature, featuring a standard two-screw design, securely holds the reed in place, which is crucial for consistent sound production. However, I noticed that the brass ligature screws can be a bit finicky, tending to back out easily when loosened. It's something I'll need to keep an eye on to prevent any stripping issues. In terms of sound, the mouthpiece leans towards a brighter tone, which may or may not suit everyone's preference. While it's not a major issue, it's worth noting, especially as my daughter progresses and develops her own sound. One positive aspect is that the mouthpiece fits snugly on the saxophone neck, almost mimicking the original piece. This ensures a comfortable playing experience and minimizes any need for adjustments when switching to this new mouthpiece.Overall, despite some minor drawbacks like the ligature screws' tendency to loosen and the brighter tone, I believe this set provides a decent starting point for my daughter's saxophone journey. It offers a solid foundation for learning and experimentation without breaking the bank, leaving room for potential upgrades or replacements as she advances in her musical journey.

The mouth piece is critical for sound quality especially for a beginner. The material the mouthpiece is made of effects tone and overall quality of the instrument's music. The other picture shows a good quality sax mouthpiece.
