Moisture meter for testing soil moisture

This Digital Moisture Meter has truly revolutionized my gardening experience. With a growing collection of houseplants, maintaining optimal soil moisture levels has always been a challenge. No more guesswork or relying solely on intuition, this handy device has made the task a breeze.Pros:The simple interface requires minimal effort to operate, just turn it on and stick the probe into the soil (to its halfway point or all the way) and boom you get a reading (level 0 to 10), simple. When using the meter make sure you turn it on before probing the soil as if you turn it on already probed into the soil it will not properly read moisture levels. You can always go around the plant to check that watering levels are even as well as push further down to make sure there are no root rot water levels. The meter delivers consistent and precise readings, allowing me to adjust my watering routine with confidence. Plus, the ergonomic design and compact size make it easy to handle, even in tight spaces or among densely packed foliage. The package includes an ideal moisture level list for a variety of houseplants, herbs, and fruiting plants. The paper chart is in between the cardboard packaging. I laminated it for safekeeping. It inspired me to make my own blank chart list which I now fill in after some research when I get a new plant that isn’t on the original list. The font size of the list is small. The measuring system of 0 to 10 is scaling it from dry to super wet. On the list, the required moisture levels for a variety of plants will read from 1 to 10, said level of each plant should be always maintained. The plant list also suggests the frequency of checking the plants. It is suggested that for most plants three days is ideal while others are with less frequency. Wipe the probe clean with a napkin or cloth when in use between plants to get a more accurate reading.Cons:While the Digital Moisture Meter performs admirably in most situations, it may struggle with extremely compact or rocky soils. In such cases, I have noticed the top of the meter has loosened and the hard shell above the metal probe opens and becomes dislodged from the base. It is an easy fix, I just press it shut, you can also place some tape on it. Considering the meter's overall performance and utility, this is a minor inconvenience that I'm willing to overlook, especially for the sale price of $7.99. I have had my device for almost two years. I recommend packing it away safely and not haphazardly to prevent damage to the shell over the metal probe.I highly recommend this digital moisture meter and I have already bought it as gifts for members in my family. Its reliability, convenience, and efficiency have earned it a permanent place in my gardening toolkit.

Not 100% perfect as sometimes it will not read moisture at all and have to remove from soil, turn off, wait one second, turn on, inject back into soil--the numbers produce data, finally, usually on 2nd try. But I have tried the other Luster Leaf moisture meters and this seems so far the more of the accurate bunch. I really like the information provided for several plants and their watering guides. But for the price, I am not sure if I should just return it and get an upgrade on another $25 digital moisture meter that does not have the typical indicator-tip that has, for me in the past, have eroded and fallen off from using similar meters.

I was a plant killer before this device came along. My plants died from too much and too little water. Plant experts tell us to put our fingers one inch below the soil to determine whether we needed to water the plant. The problem is, "moist enough" mean different things to different people. And what is "moist enough" for some plants is too wet for others. This digital moisture meter is an indispensable tool for the inexperienced plant keeper as well for those who have trouble with the subjectivity involved in judging the moisture content of their potting soil. It takes away the subjectivity and the need for judgment. The product came with a long list of the many common houseplants and their water needs. The water needs of the plants are given on a scale starting from one. The higher the number, the higher the water requirements of the plant. For example, Anthurium has a been given a number 8 on the scale. This means you must keep the soil moist at all times for your Anthurium. The plant list also gives suggestions on how often to check the soil moisture for each plant. Every three days for some plants while others are less frequent. The meter and the chart together make a powerful combination that will help you keep your plants alive.A very skilled horticulturists may not need a digital moisture meter but most of us who have killed houseplants before and could not figure why, this is an indispensable tool. Do your plants a favor and get this moisture meter. Your plants will thank you for it if they could only talk. As a matter of fact, if your plants could talk, they would beg you to get a digital moisture meter. The device is easy to use. Insert the metal probe deep into the soil. At least halfway. Probe different areas of the pot until you get used to it. Do not be surprised if different probing locations give different readings. The deeper you probe the higher the readings. Water follows gravity after all and it is logical that the soil at the bottom will have more moisture. Keep the probe clean between plants to get accurate measurements. Clean the probe after each use. You can use a kitchen paper towel or a small face towel to wipe the metal probe clean. Water the plant only if the readings you get are below the number given for the specific plant. To use Anthurium as an example, water only if the reading you got is below the required moisture level of 8. If the probe reads 8 or above, do not water. Water the plant thoroughly but do not leave the runoff at the bottom catch tray. Throw away the excess water that collected at the bottom tray. This is an excellent product that can save you a lot of grief. Highly recommended.

After reading the reviews of many other cheaper testers, this electronic soil moisture tester appeared to stand out. On receiving it I was very pleased with the quality and although a bit more expensive than others I was glad that I had purchased this one. Two downsides though. Firstly, I had to wait 2 weeks as came in from abroad; this was not a major issue in my case. Secondly, the list of plants and their appropriate soil moisture levels was printed very small on both sides of very thin paper, making it difficult to read, although not impossible.Would recommend this easy to use moisture tester to anyone with potted plants.

they have sent me a second hand device. I waited for two weeks and they sent a second hand device which is not functioning. Even you can not turn it on. I cannot accept any justification from them for selling a second hand device!
