The magnet is on a rod inside a tube. You can pull it back to disengage, which is a nice touch. For the price, I would have expected a stronger magnet. It does pick up screws and nails, but you almost have to touch them for the magnet to engage.

If you have the gift for knocking screw and bolt piles off the table or dropping a whole organizer while your fumbling hands grasp at thin air, then this is the tool for you!!! I dropped a small container as a test, since i have been lucky the last couple weeks and not accidentally spilled anything. With this magnet, it is super fast to clean up the mess.I have a couple magnets attached to the end of antenna-like handles. They work great for their intended purpose. They are amazing. However, if you've ever tried to collect a spilled organizer full of nuts bolts and cap screws, you'll know my pain. You are able to pick up a couple or a few at a time. Even with the larger magnet, the average amount of items picked up simultaneously is probably about 3. This wand grabs a boatload!!! The difference is extreme. It isn't magic, but it sure is nice. It sure is handy.I think the coolest feature is the slide to retract the actual magnet, combined with the ring to prevent items from following the magnet. The system works perfectly! I do think the ring is a tad large. That's my only gripe. The ring does limit the reach under lower shelves or cabinets. It isn't horrible, but I may trim it down a bit.This is a handy tool with a reasonably narrow use-case. However, when you need it, you will be glad that you have it.

I'm really surprised by the quality of this magnetic pick up tool, it's extremely well made with a great attention to detail.This is absolutely perfect to keep near your work bench, drill press, welding table, or anywhere you're working with steel. Or, should you drop a box of screws/nails this will quickly pick them up and allow you to drop them straight back in the box.I didn't actually expect such a well made tool, but man oh man, I really love this! I opted for the shorter version as my shop is pretty small and I work within some rather small spaces, so this is perfect. I'll be fabricating a bracket for this out of aluminum to keep near my drill press, making sure this is always nearby.I would absolutely recommend this tool!The chrome finish on the exterior barrel is smooth to the touch, meaning you can feel safe when removing magnetic debris and the internal magnetic plunger slides in and out very, very smoothly, just like a trombone.The large rubber handle is soft and allows for a very secure grip with either hand and the plunger knob is round, easy to grap and pull up, holding between your fingers or in your palm.There is also a nice plastic ring around the barrel approx. half way up, helping to prevent magnetized materials from following the internal magnetic want upwards whilst clearing debris from the tube.Yes, I would absolutely recommend this tool and I'm sure you'll be extremely happy with it. While you may not use this every day, when you need it, you'll be extremely happy you've got it!The wand was shipped quickly, packaged within strong box and requires no set up. Just remove and use.Great tool!

Good 23" Magnetic Pickup Tool. Safely retrieves nails, screws and metal objects. Arrived quickly and of course we had to experiment with it immediately. Strong magnet. Love the release rod. Well made and good quality. Just what every man needs for their shop. Handy and convenient. There is only one thing that I can see that goes against this and that is the price - $35.99 is a bit steep.

I have a shorter 17-inch magnetic wand, but wanted a longer model so I can sweep the floor easier. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09M4837C6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I grind and cut a lot. This spreads steel chips and very fine grindings all over the place.This longish wand lets me reach into corners and under my welding table to pick up the metal particles.I don't need it to lift heavy stuff like bolts -- the fine particles are difficult enough. Can't even see them sometimes. This magnet finds them and its extra length means I don't have to bend over so much.I wish they made a 30-inch model!The plastic donut on the shaft allows the filings to fall into the receptacle easily. Handle is good. Magnet is strong.The key to this design is that you never have to touch the filings. Scraping filings off a regular magnet is never fully successful and even with a gloved hand, it's a pain, or worse, you get metal slivers in your hand.With an internal magnet that does not directly touch the filings, you pull the round knob, and the filings simply fall off into the bin, leaving a perfectly clean non-magnets sleeve, ready for the next pickup.Overall, very pleased.

Magnetic Pickup Tool That Can Safely Retrieve Nails, Screws, and Metal Objects Through Sturdy Objects, and Clean Iron Filings (15 inches)I got this to help clean up around my vise after I cut metal. I’m pretty skeptical about these types of magnets. They always overhype the product. It does do a pretty good job of picking up the metal filings and they come off easily by pulling the knob on the handle. I tried picking up some nuts and bolts just to see how it would do. It will grab 4 or 5 medium sized bolts at once without dropping them. I think it would actually work better if it was square instead of round. I didn’t’ try anything really heavy but I’m pretty sure it won’t handle 35 lbs as claimed in one of the pictures. The price point is way too high for this magnet. If I hadn’t received this through the Vine program, there’s no way I would pay $36.00 for this.

The magnet works very well picks up all types of metals.And I like the release handle of the materials that it picks up very user friendly.
