I really really wanted to give this 5 stars. This is the best hatchet handle I've ever felt. It's finished perfectly. The only problem I had, was the edge was near unusable when brand new. For me it's no issue as I usually re-profile all my axes and knives. But for someone who doesn't have access to edgemaking equipment, this would be difficult to rework. Overall, amazing little hatchet. I am super impressed.

Perfect size for a small axe. I have purchased several other marbles axes over the years and they are all excellent. Grain orientation on handle was near perfect. Very sharp from the box so little work is needed to achieve shaving sharpness. Five stars.

Axe head was not hung center, eye poll was shifted to the right. Back of the axe head was not square. I've heard tons of great reviews on this axe, I didn't get a winner I guess. Axe handle felt weird to me; thin in center, fat towards the head. Not sure I'd call it reinforcing the handle. The center seems where the handle will break since it's so thin. Axe head looks like they pitted it to make it look forged. It looks like it was ground down then the pitting added after the fact. For $30, it's useable when compared to a Chinese harbor freight bargain barrel hatchet. But that's about the kind of tool it should be compared to, not a quality American tool or European forged. You can find a quality tool made anywhere in the world, but this wasn't it.

This axe is well balanced and has a great feel. I use this axe for shaping wood blanks into spoons.

For under $40, this is a very nice hatchet. Handle is comfortable, and has a nice shape, especially when you need to grip closer to the head. The head is set correctly to the handle; it has no gaps and feels sturdy. The head is a bit heavier than expected, but still feels good to swing. So far, the only thing keeping this from a 5-star is the lack of a decent edge. The upper half isn't bad, but the lower half was completely dull. It will take some work, but I expected that. I might update this in a few weeks after some real use.

This hand ax is very nice. You couldn't ask for better grain in the handle. The wideness of the top of the handle surprises me, but allows for better grip and control for fine work, and also allows a much longer ax handle to be put on the ax head if needed. Plus the extra handle up front also aids the weight distribution for chopping. It isn't sharp out of the box, and the handle needs oiling, but the bevel and polish on the backhammer is a nice extra detail. It seems completely functional and well thought out. And 1045 carbon steel, while very basic, lasts and is easy to maintain. I whipped up a cover from an old bit of leather, made a short lanyard out of paracord to hang it, and I'm perfectly satisfied. I would not have expected so much satisfaction at this price point.
