I am using this to hold my boat onto my boat trailer while I back it down the boat ramp. Previously after disconnecting the winch strap, the boat started sliding off the trailer before it was fully in the water. Only quick action of backing up saved the boat from landing on the ramp. This shackle now holds the boat on the trailer while I back up and releases the boat when I pull the pin, with a length of rope, from the dock. On the first try, the split ring at the end of the pin opened up and the rope pulled off. I replaced the ring with a piece of 1/16" SS cable and two ferrules.

Chinese junk once again. At first appearance the shackle seems robust but on no less than 4 occasions the entire lock mechanism, spring, pin, and ring came completely apart, exploded apart in fact. That could kill someone. For example, I initially went up a 60' mast in a bosuns chair, had the shackle failed at that point, I would've been dead. Fortunately it failed only when a light load was on it. I will be demanding my money back from Amazon. This retailer should be banned from manufacturer should be banned from producing anything. I took pics too prove it.
