The shell cutter makes peeling hardboiled eggs easier. I like it for soft-boiled eggs, no more having to peel bits of shell off the top before digging in.

As an egg thumper, pull the knob up, set on egg, let go. Simple. Easy. Kinda fun! 7/30 Revision: The ball at the top just flew off! If you hit the top with a spoon still works well, just not as fun as pulling the ball and letting it thump!

March 2024: Easy to use. Sometimes I need to strike more than once. Makes nice, clean breaks on hard/soft eggs and regular uncooked eggs. A must have if you enjoy soft boiled-eggs. Need to get another for work.Updated Review Aug 2024: After only 5 months and using about 4-6x a month, this broke. Top ball detached due to bad soldiering points (see photos). It’s not capable of being taken apart to repair. Went from 4-stars to 1-star.

It cracks eggshells just as the photos show, from raw to hard boiled. Unfortunately there are no instructions in the package Insert the “pointy” end of the egg for maximum diameter of cut. For raw or soft boiled, pull the plunger half way out,for hard boiled all the way. (It’s important for hard boiled to make sure you plunge the eggs into cold water after cooking. In addition, I put them in the freezer for no more than 3 to 4 minutes. This makes them a breeze to peal. In addition, bounce the end of the egg opposite the cut once or twice on your counter top. With any luck you’ll be able to then push the egg out of its shell with your thumb.) For me, this widget is a godsend. I Inherited a hand tremor, making jobs like precisely cracking a soft boiled egg a nightmare. Now I can enjoy a favorite breakfast without any anxiety.

While on vacation I was using an egg topper to open my soft boiled eggs. When I got home I immediately ordered this. After a few tries, you get the hang of it. Seems sturdy enough to last a good long time.

The egg shell cutter takes an awful lot of effort and not very successful. The egg shell piercer seems to work quite well but the egg must be placed exactly right or there's a danger of breaking the egg.
