Thin liner for under bike or horse helmet. Offers some warmth when it’s cold.

Other than minimal wind protection, this a nice hat.

I commute by bicycle, and when it gets cold in SoCal (mid-40s in the morning), I like to wear something underneath my helmet that gives my ears a bit of protection against the wind. Usually I wear a light beanie, which does the job. What I appreciate about this hat, is that it does more than the job! I was concerned that it might not fit under my helmet, as the fabric is just a shade thicker than my normal beanies, but it fit perfectly. The ear flaps fit snugly and provide adequate warmth. When I get too warm, near the end of my journey, I can flip them up to get a little breeze. The best part of this hat is the slight brim. It provides just enough shading from the low morning sun to help me see a bit better. It's not a long brim, but it's better than nothing. After commuting with this for a few days, I'm never going back to a brimless beanie!I'm not sure if this would be effective against, say, Midwest winter temps, but I think it will keep me warm as we'll dip into the 30's at some point. All in all, a great, warm, cycling cap. Probably good for other stuff too.

I've been using this cap under my regular helmet when the temperatures dip a bit or when the mornings are cool but not enough to warrant my winter helmet for the entire day.At first the ear flaps seem a bit "loose" but once my helmet is strapped on, the ear flaps stay down and keep my ears warm, as intended. This is a close fitting hat with a small visor so you might feel a bit odd looking if wearing it without a helmet, especially if you flip the ear flaps up (and they do flip up), but then it might just be a matter of getting used to it (or not caring). The visor flips up, too, just like a typical bike hat. I didn't think the visor would be very useful, but it does, in fact, keep the wind from directly entering my sunglasses at the top, so that's a plus. There is an elastic band in the back located about where a typical baseball hat adjustment would be, so if you flip up the ear flaps, the hat still stays in place.I have no nits to pick other than I think the price could drop a couple of dollars.

This hat is pretty wind resistant, and the fleece lining is warm. It's perfect when cycling on a 30-40 degree day, where it's not quite cold enough for a full balaclava but you need something to keep your ears warm. It could probably handle lower, but I haven't tried it because I want my face covered at that point. The design is a traditional cycling cap, flip-up bill and all, with an additional flap which goes all the way around the back of the wearer's head. Unfortunately, this means there's a seam which lays across the top of the ear. It doesn't bother me as there's a strip of smooth fabric covering it, but may cause issues for those with especially sensitive ears. Wearing glasses may make it even worse. That aside, I have no complaints. It fits perfectly under a helmet (although you may need to loosen it slightly, as expected.) The ear-flaps are a little lose, but the helmet straps hold them in place perfectly. As for quality, it feels great. The fabric is a very dense and stretchy weave, and I couldn't find a missed stitch anywhere. I really like the heather pattern of my "dark gray" example, but dark blue was also tempting.Washing instructions are: Machine wash cold, do not bleach, tumble dry, low temperature iron, and do not dry clean. Personally, I'd tumble dry on low heat as not to damage the spandex. If you want something to keep your ears warm while cycling on a cool day, and want it to have a bill, this is a great option. I do wish the seam had been located a little better for comfort, but otherwise it's perfect.

I love the brim and ear warmers, as my headline says. My eyes have always been extra sensitive to bright light and winter sun on snow is wicked for me. To have the sun shining from above and fight the glare from the snow both is uncomfortable, so I try to wear hats that have a brim on them in the winter. This one works good because I can put it under my oversized trapper hat and that snugs the trapper hat, along with giving me eye protection. I also do not like cold ears, so the extra coverage on my ears is an added plus for me.I like that it is somewhat thin so I can fit it under other hats that are loose on my head to make the heavier ones fit better. I live in the middle of a mostly open field and the wind along with the windchill in the winter gets pretty bad here. This is going to help a lot for going out to clear the snow off of my porch and car.The cap seems well made. It was nice and warm while I was trying it on for the photo and checking the fit. It is a bit loose, but with another heavier hat over it, it will work great. It is lightweight and thin, but has something in it that keeps the warmth in.I will recommend this cap. It is a nice one for using as a liner to helmets and other things too, like oversized winter hats. The brim really helps for anyone who is light sensitive on a sunny day!
