Normally Melissa & Doug products don't disappoint, but these learning mats are frustrating. I did not purchase or try the specific M&D crayons as these were for 6-7 year olds to use during independent math centers. #2 pencils mark well enough, but are tedious and time consuming to erase. White erasers work better, smudge less than pink. Difficult for young children to erase their own work. I would not recommend these mats.

Wonderful ways to entertain the kids while getting meals ready. Educational & fun.Be careful cleaning, don’t use scrubber side of the sponge, it takes the color image off.

I bought this placemat to help my 6 and 8 year olds work on telling time. I also bought the special crayons that go with it. The mat is a great idea. I put it under their lunch or sometimes just give it to them and let them figure out the time as well as coloring a corresponding picture. It's easy to erase and re-use, which I like.My one complaint about it is that there isn't much room on the edge of the analog clock for them to write in numbers. I want them to practice writing in the :00, :15, :30, and :45, as well as the hours, but the dark edge on the clock as well as the closeness to the edge of the mat and the digital clock below doesn't leave much room for writing numbers in or makes them hard to see. I wish they'd make a thick white or light colored border around the analog clock so kids can practice writing in the numbers where they would be in a real clock.**Also, unlike the other reviewer, I only received ONE mat for this price. I thought the six for that price seemed like a good deal and ordered based on that review, but I now think her extra 5 were a fluke. Don't count on getting more than 1. I still think it's a helpful teaching tool, but maybe a bit pricey just for one mat and no crayons included.

Customers who are considering this item need to know that you receive SIX "Telling Time Write-A-Mat" placemats, not just one. I reviewed the description, and nowhere does it say that you receive a package of six, as opposed to just one mat. I plan to give five of them away to the teachers at my grandson's elementary school; I love the Melissa & Doug placemats because you can use either the crayons designed for the mats, or a pencil.
