This brand of bulb is worth the hype. These bulbs can be easy to damage, but i dropped this one about 5 feet and it just turned off but i was able to turn it back on again. Speaking of that, you CANNOT turn the bulb on and off quickly. You have to let it cool down before trying to illuminate it again, or it won't light up. I learned this the hard way

Everything from distance to spectrum is laid out and explained. Good solution for an all in one basking lamp for reptiles. Turtle loves this bulb and his shell looks very healthy. Suffered from retained scutes before I switched to these. No longer. Make sure you have the correct lamp hood shape as recommended, and follow the instructions on how far away the bulb should be from the animal, and you won't regret replacing your other bulbs for this. No more need for separate heat and having to figure out if the UV bulb is providing all the collect wavelengths needed.

Bulb works great. I use it for my uromastyx and can verify with a UVB meter that it outputs the correct UVB. It is an extremely strong bulb so make sure to measure the UVB! It was too strong for how close it was to my iguana but we just got a different bulb for them. UVB output lasted about a year which is what I would've expected. Note that it takes a bit to warm up so you need to give it time before you measure the UVB as it gets significantly stronger the longer it sits vs straight out of the box. Will be my go to bulb for a little desert reptile!

I understand these are the best lights for my two turtles. I installed in the fixture over my indoor pond and spooked them off their backing rock . They made a small splash and a drop hit the light and it exploded !Ugggh I got 30 seconds with the light and at $60 ? So never got to see how well they work lol

This is the best lamp for your sun loving reptiles. Lighting for reptiles has come a long way over the years. And the Mega Ray Mercury Vapor bulb is at the front of that progression. With use of the UVB meter you will find these bulbs have a much higher UVB output than any other bulbs on the market. The difference with this one it is produces heat as well as UVA. This is truly a all in one bulb. But I still recommend running a supplemental light source like Fluorescent lights to mimic mid day sun light. This is explained on the Reptile UV website by the manufacturer of these amazing bulbs. I use only the Mega Ray lamps and a fluorescent lights and my turtles are all heathy and some of the best turtles out there. I have been raising and caring for aquatic turtles for a good 25+ years now and I can tell you the Mega Ray is the bulb to have. And the longevity of the UVB output is top of the standard, as well. I recommend this bulb to anyone. Help your reptiles get the benefits they need to thrive. And make sure to read up on lighting for reptiles on Reptile UV.Edit: Update.I have also been keeping Monitor Lizards for just over a decade. The size of these monitors require large basking areas with high basking temps. I use multiple bulbs to achieve a larger basking area for my 4-5 ft Monitors. They are thriving with this lamps and supplemental fluorescent lighting. As you can till, I use a complex lighting system with multiple bulbs of different types that come on and go off at different times of day. If I put this much effort into that, I only use the bulbs that I know and trust.

I am so angry that I don’t even know what to say without coming off like a total psychopath. My dragon was the recommended height away from the bulb and suffered third degree burns across the entire top of her body from the bulb. I have spent over $500 and hours upon hours trying to save her from death. I have given her fluids and antibiotics, pain medications, oral water every few hours, carnivore care when she was refusing food, iodining and silver sulfa’ing her back several times a day, nebulizing her with baytril to stave off secondary pneumonia, PEOPLE read the vet articles and run away from mercury vapor lights! Use the tried and true, save your animals and your wallets, do not buy mercury vapor - and if you claim to have no issues, you just have not been unlucky yet - give it time. These bulbs are far too strong for our reptiles. Was using a 40 breeder with the light being filtered by the mesh lid and her at optimal range and still frying. These pictures are after more than a month of daily treatments and she will be forever scarred and need skin care considerations.

In short:•Good packaging•Great price (2 bulbs in 1)•Fantastic quality (uv + heat)•Quick to heat up for your animal to useMy mega-ray bulb just came in today for my red eared slider. The packaging was nice; came in the box shown with bubble wrap around it, inside the bulb was held in place by cardboard which is very nice so you know the bulb didnt roll everywhere during delivery, no damage for me at all. When I put the bulb in and turned it on, it heated up very quickly so it was readily available for my turtle to use. I love the quality so far; uvb and heat in one bulb is so nice (I dont need to spend 60 on a heating bulb that needs changed at least every 6 months + a separate uvb bulb that needs changed about every year), thus the price is actually really good. Just be sure to test your basking temperature for your animals, you never want to cause harm to your animals by having it too hot or too cold. Lots of people say these bulbs can last almost 2 years which is really great, seems really good quality so I would definitely be buying again next time if this bulb lasts!!
