I tried this with a Shure SM7B microphone with very good results. The SM7B, along with ribbon mics are famously why products like this exist. Basic setup was SM7B with and without the booster, going into the front mic preamp input on a MOTU 828x, into an Apple Silicon Mac running Cubase 13. Worked great. no issues. No undue noise or distortion discerned due to booster. It took me a few minutes to set up a reasonable test setup for this, but I think I got it.NOTES:- I turned on the PAD on the MOTU input when using this with phantom power enabled (booster on). I could still use the mic with the phantom power off. In other words, I turned the gain going into the mic preamp way down when the unit was on-- makes sense, I think.- One needs to keep a grip on monitor gain while using this, because it can kick up levels enough that you can get feedback (generally high-pitch whine or screech), even through headphones.- Basically, you get a step up into a new dynamic range. It can be used for good or ill.- Other products that do what this device does cost A LOT more, I rate this a very good bargain, just mind what the gain is doing and where it ends up in your signal chain.

I have a high-end microphone I use for vocal recordings on my computer, but it's large and heavy and requires a large and heavy mic stand, so I got this to see if I could use it with a smaller mic -- and smaller mic stand. Because this is a preamp, you will need an extra cable, but I also found that my 90-degree adapter works for this as well. This gave me an incredible sound boost, as well as depth of sound, that I was not getting before, which lets me use a smaller mic. I did not get any feedback or noise, so this is a keeper for me!

This preamplifier has a constant radio whine noise. Increasing the gain further increases this noise. Touching the box changes the sound leading me to think there's a grounding or shielding issue with my unit. As good as the price is on this, I'd wait for more reviews.

It’s nice to have a bit more gain to work with on some recording sessions. Especially for lower output microphones. I was disappointed that it wouldn’t pass along the 48V power so none of my condensers worked. For my cardioids it added a ton of clear gain. I didn’t notice any additional noise in the test setups I tried. Pretty decent construction and should hold up for normal home studio use.

There must be some quality control issues with these. Some seem to like it, but mine is very very noisy. To the point of being unusable. Sadly, this makes it pretty hard to recommend.

I added this TKLBLS preamp to my recording setup and it's made a world of difference with my Shure SM7B. The clean 25dB gain boost is exactly what I needed to get proper levels without cranking my Focusrite 2i4 interface to its limits. I'm particularly impressed by how noise-free the signal remains - absolutely no static or interference introduced into my recordings. The build quality feels substantial and professional, giving me confidence in its durability. When paired with phantom power from my interface, this preamp delivers studio-quality sound that has significantly elevated my vocal recordings.Pros:- Provides 25dB of clean, noise-free gain- Solid build quality that feels professional- Works perfectly with the notoriously gain-hungry Shure SM7BCons:- Requires external phantom power source- Single channel limits flexibility for multi-mic setups- No gain adjustment control for fine-tuning
