Wasn’t a 1:1 swap for the original movement so it took a little creativity to install. I built a small resonator box behind the clock face and wired both the original and included speaker and I’m very happy with the sound.Adjusting notes: there is a contact switch in the movement for the top of the hour. Finding exactly where that switch is triggered is the tricky part. The quarter hour chimes are tracked electronically from the top of the hour chime. In other words, they are not triggered by hand position but sound 15, 30, and 45 minutes from the last hour chime.Start by installing the C batteries but not the AA battery. Loosely install the hour hand, then turn the adjustment dial so the hand moves clockwise. Always make adjustments in a clockwise direction. Continue to rotate the dial until a slight resistance is felt. This means it’s getting close to the hour trigger point so turn the dial very slowly until the chime sounds and stop. Install the minute hand so it points at 12 and adjust the hour hand so it points at any hour. Hold the adjustment dial firmly so the hour hand moves on the shaft, but doesn’t turn the shaft. Don’t worry about the second hand yetInstall the AA battery and advance the time to the 55 minute point with the dial. Watch the movement and see if the chime is triggered when the minute hand reaches 12 o’clock. We don’t care what hour it chimes at this point. If the minute hand is off, hold the dial firmly and adjust the minute hand like you adjusted the hour hand. This will take a few tries.Once the chime is triggered when the minute hand reaches 12 o’clock exactly, install the second hand. Remember to allow for the seconds that have passed since the chime was triggered.Using the dial, set the clock to the correct time, noting the chime will likely be out of sync with the hour. But that’s OKThe final step is to sync the chime with the hour. Each press of the set button advances the chime one hour. Press it until the chime rings the last hour prior to the time indicated on the clock face. In other words, if you set the clock face to indicate 3:25, advance the chime until it rings 3.Note the quarter hour chimes will be off until the next hour sounds. After the next hour rings, everything should be synced up.If you plan on using the night silent feature, note it’s a 24 hour clock. You may need to press the set button more than 12 times to get it to AM or PM.

Other people are correct about the instructions. They're about as useless as wet toilet paper. But I put it in the clock, put on the hands, adjusted them for time and chime synchronizing, and that was it. Oh, and I did change speakers. I put in the one that came from the previous movement. The included one is not loud enough. If I can help out those having problems setting the chime and time I would like to say that if you push the "Reset" button one time it will reset the time and chime to 6:00. All you should have to do is gain access to the clock face and carefully move the hour hand to 6 and the minute hand to 12. The minute hand will rotate if you also hold the adjustment wheel on the mechanism. Or just carefully pull the minute hand off the stem and put it back on where you want it.Also, once you have the clock started and running, if you remove the C batteries and put them back in the chime will be ahead by one. So, say it has hit 5:00 or a little after. It's going to chime 6 times. Here's an easy fix. Push the "Set" button 11 times. You don't have to wait for the chime to finish. The chime should be back on track at 6:00. The clock may not chime every quarter hour and at the hour it may chime 5 minutes after the hour. Don't worry it will catch up at the next hour. So, basically, what you're doing is moving ahead to the next 12 hour mark if that makes any sense. Say the time was 3:00 when you did this. You would still push the button 11 times in order to get back on track. Hope this helps.

The movement arrived in a little over a week, which was far less then estimated date.I have to agree with the negatives that were pointed out in other reviews:1)The supplied speaker is not very loud.2)The instructions are close to useless.I used the movement in a schoolhouse style clock, to replace old broken movement. (see pictures)I was a little worried that the new movement would be too wide, but it was just fine. The mounting shaft on the new movement is about 8.5mm diameter, my old one was 10mm diameter. Also, the mounting shaft seemed a bit shorter than the old movement. The shaft length was ok when I didn't use the rubber base washer. I may have to put a little rubber glue between the movement and the clock so that it does not move when setting it.The speaker in the schoolhouse clock was bigger than the one supplied with the new movement, so I used the bigger speaker. This made the chime much louder. So loud that I had to turn it to half volume.Syncing the chime is a little annoying, since the instructions are useless. I think pressing the reset button resets the chime to 6 AM. Then each press of the set button adds another hour to the chime. I found it easiest to just set the clock time to a little before 6:00, then press the reset button. Advancing the time to 6:00 will sync the clock/chime to 6 AM. Then you just advance the time to the current time. You do not need to wait for each hour chime to complete, before moving on to the required time. What are my final thoughts? I love this movement. The Westminster dhime sounds very nice, much better than the original movement The pendulum movement also works very well. On my original movement the pendulum quit working right away. On the new movement the pendulum has plenty of swing. The clocks 12" long pendulum occasionally knocks against the inside of the clock. I plan to glue some craft foam sheet against the sides to deaden the knocks. The supplied hands are fancier than the clocks original ones. I love the C size batteries for the chime/pendulum and one AA for the time movement. The AA should supply clock for a year and replacing C batteries won't interfere with time.
