I have had two differnt statch blocks break under load. The two slab of metal type like by Ranger and even the famous winch maker brand. Both times they refunded my $35 or $55 and fortunately no one was hurt or killed when they broke, but the common "two slabs of metal with a pully in the middle heald together with a snap ring" will break under a side load.I have bought two of this type different type.., whole different ball-game. If your use could be dangerous if the block fails, buy this different type .Ask yourself If your life, or your hand or your leg is worth the extra hundred bucks? If you just want something to play with, or if you are only using it at 1/4 the rated load,, then get the pancake type
