The solution is the Mishimoto direct-fit top-mount intercooler engineered specifically for the 2008a2014 Subaru WRX. The stock top-mount intercooler is prone to head soak and even failure of the stock plastic end tanks above 18psi. Mishimoto engineers spent months designing and testing this new intercooler to ensure optimum performance on both the street and track. This intercooler utilizes durable cast aluminum end tanks TIG-welded to a highly efficient, dense bar-and-plate core. The Mishimoto intercooler has a 3.75" thick core and a total volume of 584 in3. Thanks to this volume and a very dense offset fin pitch, we are able to optimize heat transfer and support vehicles from stock up to 400 whp. This intercooler endured rigorous testing, showing a 12A Degree Fahrenheit temperature drop as well as a +6 whp and +8 wtq bolt-on power increase for our stock test vehicle. Installation is simple, requires no modification to any parts in the engine bay, and can be completed in under 30 minutes. These components negate the need to gather supplies for installation, and they ensure years of reliable service. Beautiful top mount! The finish is great and looks awesome. It’s a lot bigger than the stock intercooler. It’s a tight fit and takes probably 2 hours to install (sooner if you have an extra pair of hands helping).

This was the best price ($ 659.10) I could find; nice that it comes with a high quality hose. The intercooler itself looks great; I did find metal shaving in the end caps, which I easily removed! Advertisement says red hose, mine hose was black; but I am going for a stock look anyway, so I am very satisfied about that. Fitment was pretty tight, especially on the turbo side. Straightforward enough, thoughI would recommend this job only for someone that has substantial experience on DIY car maintenance. Expect about 2-3 hours to get it done.I drove the piss out of it and sat in stop-and-go traffic to test. Unlike the stock one, the TMIC never got beyond warm. It does eventually get hot, but other than that, performs as advertised.
