For real... This doesn't feel like foam at all. It's polyurethane, if anything. So it'll be hard hitting. However, I can still try to bend it with force.Definitely for training/sparring. NOT A TOY.Overall, it handles decently. There's texture to the "grip" but it's not really a grip texture. More like from the molding it came out of.

I did not purchase this item, as it is not clear if allowed by my State’s Law’s! I would encourage those thinking of purchasing this item to look into their state’s law’s regarding this item as well as read the below recommended books I have reviewed: (It should be “mandatory” that seller’s of items such as this, not just Amazon.com, but ALL be required to list “state’s” items such as these are in fact permitted or not permitted and under what circumstance- that would actually be something “useful” for once in the US of A for US ALL- as the US is one most “legalistic societies on the planet Earth!)Fundamentals of Modern Police Impact Weapons 1st Edition by Massad F. Ayoob (Author) [at Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0398037485/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ] should be read by all law enforcement officer’s in the US of A! As well as by US Military-not only Military Police-but US Infantrymen or other’s whom might be placed in a “close with the enemy” situation, as both a “non-lethal” and potentially “lethal” means of controlling crowds, which when I was in military, we trained for on exercises such as “Tandem Thrust” in Guam and Tinian Island, etc…. Mr. Ayoob goes into great “discourse,” with many scenarios when it is appropriate to utilize both and/or simply walk away from a situation and call for “back-up” support! While not as good as “The Monadnock PR-24 “Prosecutor”- A Training Manual for Law Enforcement Officers” by Richard R. Starrett [at Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/PR-24-Police-Baton-Training-Enforcement/dp/B000KBJXTI/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1526892305&sr=8-5&keywords=pr24+baton+monadnock ] in “clear” pictures and diagrams, it discusses the most important aspect’s of when it is “permissible” to utilize this tool!!!! Thant being said it should be read in conjunction with Mr. Starrett” book-discussed below:Mr. Starrett’s, book is a great manual and should be required reading and "extensive" training for all US Law Enforcement Officer's for the utilization of "non-lethal" force in apprehending "subjects!" when necessary! The pictures are fantastic, and I wonder why in my local area on Eastern Shore of Baldwin County Alabama and elsewhere I have been in United States no longer really see "peace" Officers carrying these "batons" nor out on foot-patrol nor even "bike-patrol" interacting with the local populace, but instead simply riding around in "patrol-cars" all day long! IS THIS TRULY COMMUNITY POLICING!I would also suggest that they read "Left of Bang: How the Marine Corps' Combat Hunter Program Can Save Your Life" Paperback – June 13, 2014 by Patrick Van Horne (Author), Jason A. Riley (Author), Shawn Coyne (Editor), Steven Pressfield (Introduction) [at Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Left-Bang-Marine-Combat-Program/dp/1936891301/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526804563&sr=8-1&keywords=left+of+bang&dpID=51jDup478zL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch ] which emphasizes directly working with and getting to know the local populace, as well as signs/ indicators of trouble in local areas. This is how "largely" in Iraq US service-members, were able to apprehend or "neutralize" High-Value-Target's to a very large degree, and in a whole host of cases "stay alive" while performing their duties, as tipped off by local "populace" or noticed significant changes in their "operating" environment on any given day! How, can one possibly do this by "riding" around solely in a "patrol" vehicle all day long?Furthermore, this book also, emphasizes the need for Law-Enforcement to have proper training in "self-defense" - but as book notes, not enough "time" and "resources" are in fact dedicated to this effort by most "peace" officer Department's. I myself, "once upon a time," was taking self-defense classes with a local "police-officer," who was paying out of his own pocket-sadly, and they more than "reiterated" this sentiment! And this individual was more into "prevention" of crime than "apprehending" a subject and throwing them in jail!, for forever and a day! Think that is the "true" spirit of "peace" keeping- prevention by direct interaction and education of the local population! Numerous books by "psychologist's" and others have been written on this very subject!I would also highly recommend the "PR-24 police baton advanced techniques" Paperback – 1985by Joseph J Truncale (Author) [at Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/PR-24-police-baton-advanced-techniques/dp/B00071HSTI/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1526805531&sr=1-1&keywords=PR-24+Police+Baton+Advanced+Techniques ] ! [IF ONE WANTS TRIAN THIS TOOL OR TONFA ONE NEEDS TO CHECK LOCAL STATE LAWS- WHICH “SHOULD” BE POSTED BY ANYONE SELLING THESE ITEMS- BUT IS OFTEN NOT!]If the tide is to turn on crime and the broken "criminal-justice" system then "Peace-Officer's" must get out and directly interact with the local population's in their areas, and when necessary try and utilize "non-lethal means of apprehending subject's whenever possible, but must have the means to "defend" themselves beyond the sole utilization of a "firearm!" This means simply more initial and continuous "training" in "self-defense" and the "utilization" of such instruments/tools as the PR-24 Baton as well as "pepper-spray" and "tasers!" Furthermore, like the military, a "premium" must be placed on "physical-fitness" not just "lifting" weight's in the gym, but "functional" physical fitness- across the athletic spectrum! In a "unit" I was in we used to have regular "sports" competitions with the "ingenious" police force- why is it not the same in the US? Finally, abroad, in most cases, one will find a "peace" Officer of some type on duty on every City block 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, and as long as one heeds them- if spoken to by them, 9 out of 10 times will simply let one go on their way- but do not make same "mistake" more than a few times, as otherwise a "different" outcome will be "rapidly" upon one!Bottom-Line: This book along with other's "exemplifies" what US Law Enforcement should be doing in local communities across the US- out patrolling daily on foot or bicycle, and "interacting" with those they seek to "protect," not simply "cruising" in a patrol car all day long! However, need the funding and "continuous" training and "mental an physical" fitness to do so!PS: Have discovered a lot these techniques can be utilized simple "walking" cane as well! (See PEBForum.co m "Post Another Resource "mobility" Challenged Veterans- "Warrior Cane Project" - GM Shuey" posted on 20 MAY 2018)

This training baton is great to handle and to practice with. But be warned, it is made of really hard foam and can do damage if you hit someone with it

Good quality training baton. Which is not surprising as it is an monadnock baton. Does exactly what I need training wise.

I have been involved in the martial arts, Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics, and the weapon arts for more than 57 years. In the past, I have trained countless police officers in the use of the Monadnock PR-24 Police Baton and the Straight (Expandable) baton. As a former Monadnock International Instructor I have used this piece of equipment hundreds of times in training programs I found it to be an excellent foam training PR-24 to use for practicing the control and take down techniques in the Monadnock law enforcement training programs, including practicing the PR-24 Police Baton Advanced Techniques. I have also used it hundreds of times to practice the strikes and thrusts on the blue Monadnock training bags. The reason I only gave it four stars rather than five as a training tool is because it does tend to bend when using full power strikes on the training bags. In most cases, this was not a big problem for me; nevertheless, this is the only real draw back to using this white training baton. You should also keep in mind that this is NOT a super soft foam baton and you cannot be striking people with it in training, unless they are suited up with some type of protective training outfit. In conclusion, if you are using the PR-24 Side Handle Police Baton in your agency, you may also want to order one of these white training batons to use in organized classes.Rating: 4 Stars.
