Alisdair Becket King is a British stand up comic who also has a Youtube channel where he makes hilarious videos - which showcase his interests in science fiction, mystery fiction and more. So when he announced he'd written a mystery book for children I - not a child - immediately purchased it as soon as it became available in the US. It's fun - "ABK" as he is known has a fine flair for comedy, one can easily suspend believe that adult characters can believe that Montgomery Bon Bon with "his" mobile mustache is a great detective. ABK also has a flair for voices. All the characters have voices that fit them, and Montgomery Bon Bon's accent seems to me to be an homage to David Suchet's accent as Poirot. I also purchased the audio version, as I have done for the first sequel and will do when the next book in the series comes out. I can't listen to non-fiction audio books but fiction books are most enjoyable and ABK's reading is fantastic. Highly recommended. (Oh, the mystery is pretty good, too!)

Montgomery Bonbon is responsible for solving many high-stakes crimes, including unmasking the Emmental Bandit, restoring the Rusakova diamonds to their rightful owner, and busting an international owl-smuggling ring, resulting in the arrest of over twelve owls. The brainchild of stand-up comedian Alasdair Beckett-King and illustrator Claire Powell, The Montgomery Bonbon books unfold through delightful tongue-in-cheek narration that will appeal to fans of the Lemony Snicket series.Beckett-King engaging text and Powell’s stylized illustrations are used in concert, each moving the story forward.Though the books hover at 300 pages, they are illustrated throughout, making the books feel much shorter. With mystery and hijinks from beginning to end Montgomery Bonbon has broad appeal.

Not quite the subtlety and wit of A. Beckett-King's other creative stuff but judging by the reaction of my grand-children ( the age group for which it is intended ) it is a very successful piece of writing.

I loved ABK's comedy, so of course, I had to pick up his book. This is delight-full of witty British humor. I read this aloud to my 4-month-old son, and he was captivated. Such a colorful cast of characters, adorable illustrations, and page-turning suspense. I've recommended this book to basically everyone I know!

A funny quirky beginner's detective book, not a parody but a proper detective story. The pace is quite leisurely compared to a lot of children's books, which me and my 9yo appreciated as a lot of them are rather manic.Bonnie is an appealing hero, and her transformation into Montgomery Bonbon leads to some hilarious accents at bedtime, without descending into cultural insensitivity.

A smart story that doesn’t talk down to its audience. Skilfully written and beautifully illustrated. Excellent main character, very likeaby designed. Highly praised by my 9 year old son. He’s already asking for more! I highly regard the author. I’m so delighted that he is producing quality literature for kids. Absolutely recommended.

Murder at the Museum essentially answers that eternal question "What if Poirot was a 10 year old girl, from the north-east of England, wearing a fake moustache?". In exploring this we are led through a satisfying murder mystery, with a cast of colourful characters, and amusing interactions. My 6-year-old loved it and wanted me to read it to them again immediately.

Discovering ABK has been an absolute delight! His videos on youtube are hilarious, his podcast Loremen is one of my favorites, and when I saw he had written a book, I couldn't wait to check it out! It's seriously wonderful, every page is filled with his delightful flair for comedy and the illustrations are darling! As a die-hard Agatha Christie fan, this book is not only fun to read but a clever mystery to unravel! I will recommend this book to everyone, I only wish the next fifteen books in the series were already published! Thank you ABK!
