Quick Tips

Frothing

How to Use

  • Fill the jug approximately half way or slightly less with good quality cold milk. Milk straight from the fridge is ideal. Insert the steam wand below the surface of the milk and open the steam tap. Gently lower the pitcher until you start to 'foam' the milk by injecting volume into the milk. After a few seconds (how long will depend on how much steam your machine delivers) the volume of milk will increase. Before the milk reaches the top of the jug, raise the pitcher to immerse the steam wand into the milk. Position the pitcher so that the flow of steam creates a mixing action. Heat to your desired temperature, then shut off the steam before removing the pitcher. Now you are ready to create your caffe latte, cappuccino, flat white!!!

Care of your pitcher

  • Avoid overheating or scalding the milk
  • Rinse throughly after each use
  • To clean use soap and hot water or may be used placed in the dishwasher

I have several milk frothing pitchers, some inexpensive and a few more expensive ones. This is the nicest one I have. The quality of the stainless steel and thickness is superior to others I own. The shape is also very unique and no problem making good steamed milk with this pitcher. No issues making milk for latte art either and the pitcher pours very well.

I'll start by saying this beautiful and pricey frothing pitcher is fantastic, I'd give it 10 stars if I could! Prior to this one, I've tried about 4 different jugs, including the Espro Toroid. Not a one of them is nearly as good as the Motta. I make two cappuccinos daily..one each for my husband and myself every day. I use half and half and contrary what some people believe, it can be frothed beautifully into a thick, rich microfilm if your technique is right. However, with my other pitchers I have always had to waste about half of the milk I use because I needed a sufficiently large volume of milk (usually about 1.5 cups) to get enough microfilm for two cups of coffee. Now to the Motta. It's only 17 oz, and I worried about it being too small. My Toroid is 20 oz, and I have a couple of others that are about 24 oz. With my other pitchers I'd end up with about a cup of wasted milk each day. With the Motta, I added only about a cup of milk total, measuring up to just below the small bend in the pitcher shape and thus below the spout. That is the perfect amount, and due to the overall shape and size I was able to get a good vortex going without it spilling over the top. I got microfoam much more quickly than in my other pitchers, and I got up to the 140° temperature more quickly as well. The quality of the thick microfoam in the Motta is the best I've ever managed, thick, rich and creamy with no bubbles. After pouring it into the two cups, there was hardly any of milk left over, so I'll always have much less waste with the Motta. So I'm pleased that I can do the foam for two cappuccinos together in this pitcher.Looks of the Motta: Absolutely gorgeous, a beautifully machined, smooth, shiny metal with no sharp edges anywhere, plus it is much heavier and thicker than the other pitchers I have (which look cheap by comparison, and my other pitchers were not the cheap kind). It has a really great handle design that I find easy to hold. It has a well defined spout. The pitcher looks fairly small, but if your volume of milk is correct and you have the foaming technique down, it is the perfect size to make microfoam for two cups of coffee.Price comments: Ouch and yikes! compared to competitors, but you really do get what you pay for and to me it is well worth it and a pleasure to use. Over time, I'll save a lot of money since I'll be using. much less half and half. Highly recommended.

Klare Kaufempfehlung

It's likely one of the best. I researched for a long time looking for a heavy duty pitcher and this one hit all the marks. #1 its made in Italy and not China, #2 it's the perfect size for me, 17oz, #3 It's thicker metal and finish is excellent with a heavy duty handle, #4 the spout just works and the top has a bent outward lip. This is much better that the straight up edges on the cheaply made ones. #5 This is real quality stainless steel that won't rust like some of the junky Chinese made pitchers. Downside is its expensive...no regrets here. I would buy it again. You make the call

I upgraded the milk jug that came with my Breville Barista Express with this one, and boy am I happy that I did. I really didn't understand how a milk jug could make a difference when steaming my milk... but it really does make a difference! First, I rarely burn my fingers because the handle is larger; second, it doesn't get too hot too quickly and I'm able to steam longer; and third, it pours perfectly. I know it's a premium milk jug and is quite pricey, but it's worth every penny. Highly recommend!

An excellent frothing jug, well-made, nice weight. Makes achieving a good fine foam very easy with full-fat milk. While I normally prefer my coffee espresso/black americano, this has made the occasional milky coffee a treat - not my usual response to caps or lattes! Even my wife (who does not like real coffee) has been impressed. Admittedly, the jug hasn't given me any latte-art skills but I never had those in the first place! Practice practice :)Thoroughly recommend!

This little guy is nice and durable and works well for steaming small quantities up to cappuccino size. However, there are two bits about it that make the learning curve on it a tad tougher than a straight-sided pitcher like Rattleware offers. The angled top half by height (roughly quarter by volume) really forces the foam together. This can be good for latte art contrast if you pour quickly from relatively high up since a large amount of foam can easily penetrate below the crema layer right off the bat, decreasing the chance of an accidental blob or white-out later in the pour when running out of milk. This does make it particularly difficult to recirculate the milk, though, so settling after steaming has a disproportionately high impact on foam consistency. Nonfat milk will be noticeably trickier and users are best off waiting for an espresso shot to be just about done pulling so any milk is poured right after steaming. A straight-sided pitcher allows more wiggle-room to recirculate milk while settling a shot and angling for a pour. The spout is very nice for getting closer to the surface earlier in taller vessels so a design can be started a tad earlier. Since foam will coalesce at the mouth a bit faster it behooves the user to do a stepped pour, stopping after the first penetration of the crema to recirculate the milk and then resuming the pour. This is certainly not the best way to lay down a good rosetta but makes this pitcher nice for tulips or layered heart designs. The rounded tip is also nice for these push-based designs, where a more pointed tip in this size of pitcher makes definition in a rosetta a bit easier (in a larger size, for lattes, this spout makes easy and gloriously defined rosettas in broad vessels). I'm not saying the tip makes things any more difficult, just that it requires adjustment. Likewise, it is easy to angle the pitcher too far in towards the body. It is definitely helpful to grasp the rim in the cradle of the thumb and forefinger to better aim the flow for a symmetrical pour; holding the pitcher by the handle or lower body makes it easy to misjudge the spout and flow direction, resulting in designs hugging or following the inside curve rather than centering (handy for a double rosetta, double tulip, or wave, though). All in all, a nice product and glad I got two. Trying to keep all my milk in the lower portion of the pitcher has been really handy in mitigating milk waste on my macchiatos and cortados. Won't be slinging this at any Thursday Night Throwdowns for latte art, though - I'm finding this handier in production for customers and nice for small to-go paper cups or unreasonably tall demitasse cups.I should add that this particular seller shipped the product with good packaging and incredibly fast. Was expecting a much longer wait, and was not expecting quite as nice a construction nor feel in the hand as it has. Holding this by the body with one or two fingertips securing the handle feels really comfortable for my medium-sized hands - don't try to grasp just the handle through the gap (only reason I'd only hold the handle is for extra-hot drinks and you can hold it by the handle edges for that).
