What a waste of time and money. You literally have to yell straight into the microphone for it to even pick up your voice and then it's still so low that you can barely hear it. Not exaggerating either. My built in microphone can pick up a normal conversation across the room.

This was actually my second similar mic. The first one was a different brand and model, and broke within the first day. This Movo mic has so far withstood several uses, and is still going strong. The mounting is robust, the isolation bands help somewhat, and the whole unit seems well made, especially at this price point. My biggest objection, especially when compared to my previous mic, is that the Movo protrudes off the back of the camera, and is a bulkier unit overall. I was worried that it would make it impossible to use the viewfinder. Fortunately, it only partially interferes, so I am able to work around it. The bulkiness is not that noticeable when mounted on the camera, as the unit is fairly well balanced. I am using this mic on a Canon Powershot SX60-HS point and shoot super zoom camera. The built in stereo mics on the camera are adequate, but I frequently record live music performances. The Movo mic is definitely an improvement over the built in mics. Bass response is better, and overall distortion is less. I tried the various filter settings, and found that they degraded the sound quality more than I would like. So far I have been able to record loud live music with no need for filtering, with little to no distortion. For the price point, this is a good mic for the casual amateur user. Would it hold up to frequent, hard use in a professional setting? No, and the sound quality would not satisfy a pro either, but I am neither a pro, or a power user, and I am very satisfied with this mic. One other bonus with this mic is that you can still use the flip up flash on the camera while the mic is mounted... with a little adjustment. On the Canon hotshoe (and probably on other cameras with both flip up flash AND a hotshoe), there is a small metal tang that presses down on a small switch when anything is mounted to the hotshoe. This disables the built in flash, which is obviously necessary when using an external flash mounted to the hotshoe. To retain the flash function with the Movo mic mounted, I simply carved away a small sliver of the plastic on the edge of the hotshoe mount on the base of the mic, enough so that the mic's hotshoe mount does not press down and engage the switch. The mic still locks in to the hotshoe securely. This allows me to transition back and forth between video/audio recording and still photography, while still being able to use the built in flash without having to remove the mic. So far I am pleased for the quality and usefulness, especially at this price point.

This microphone overcomes the problem of the built in microphone finger noise, that is generated on the cameras body, when the lens is focused during recording. This microphone sits on top of the camera but needs to be set up. I set this microphone up carefully using the manual record levels on my camera; because as with all equipment when using the the auto level setting the background noise level gain in quite moments is unaceptable. YOU must remember to switch THE MIKE ON when recording... The quality of the stereo sound is brillant for its cost. The fitting of the battery is fiddly hence lots of spare rubber bands! The build quality is light but reasonable robust. I am well pleased with this piece of equipment.

I bought this for my Canon 70D and it hates this mic. OK, it doesn't, but I do. I'm not sure if I have a faulty microphone or it is just that bad, but hopefully I can sort it out and update my review later. When I first considered this, I read the reviews to compare this and the Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro because I wanted less directional coverage and to improve audio quality, and was really hoping not spend $250. This seemed like the best of the budget offerings from the reviews, especially the ones noting that any hiss can be easily remedied with camera settings or post production manipulation. To avoid the hiss on a Canon 70D, you go into manual mode, making sure attenuation is disabled and manually set the audio level. As I did that, I noticed that the meter was reacting to the microphone only on the R indicator, the L indicator reacted as though it was still using the internal microphone (perhaps this microphone has an issue with it's wiring or jack?).But I set the levels to avoid going into the yellow and distorting the sound, did not use the hi-pass filter or -10db switch on the microphone and proceeded to test. For all those saying that the hiss issue is easily worked around, I'd hate to hear the EQ on whatever you listen to throughout the day.The hiss is very noticeable when running at what should be a "proper" gain setting (just ttouching yellow at the peaks). I started to tweak by dropping the levels to lose the hiss and it do slowly become less apparent, but by the time it became anything manageable in post production, the audio you intended to pick up is barely audible as well and very thin. Then I started trying the hi-pass filter and -10db switch in various configurations. This only managed to make the intended audio of even poorer quality. Now, I could get ProTools for my post production work and maybe make some magic with the audio quality, but that defeats the budget purpose of this purchase.I will contact the seller to see if this was indeed an issue with this particular unit (because of the odd level reading) and maybe try another on exchange, but I have a feeling from what it sounded like so far that I may just have to spend the extra $200 on the Rode.

Purchased used "like new" product for a few bucks off not knowing what to expect in terms of quality and capability. Product came as-advertised with all accessories and in great shape. I paired the Movo VXR300 HD with a Nikon D5500, and it completely transforms the video capabilities of my DSLR. After minor adjustments to the microphone levels, I was able to eliminate autofocus motor noise, manual focus/zoom noise, and the sound of every movement of my fingers on the camera body. Instead, the video picks up clear, crisp sound on my subject. I followed my three year old around the playground on a breezy day taking a series of short clips and I thought the quality of the audio was superb. No problems with hissing like some reviewers, but as I mentioned I made some adjustments to the microphone sensitivity to help mute camera noise and also help with some wind noise that was making it through the dead cat.I was very disappointed with loud camera noises using the built in microphone but this is a cheap high-quality fix to make video on the D5500 exceptional.

The Movo VXR300 Microphone is a light, mostly plastic unit. The sound it outputs is smooth and "mellow",. Thee are no sudden changes in direction as you pan the camera like some other microphones, where the sound of the opposite channel seems to pop out of nowhere, The wind muff works great, with great wind suppression.
