I purchased this to up grade the head on my Bogpod Death Grip tripod. I have used this head with rifles weighing up to 18lbs and it handles them with ease.

This is a good beefy ball much better than my previous 28mm one. My DSLR is now rock steady even with a telephoto on.

I used this to replace the saddle on my hunting tripod. The ball head is sturdy and can easily hold the weight of my setup. The adjustments are smooth and lock tight

capable tripod head, fast adjustments are easy.. I only wish I knew how to install this on the neewer monopod... but I am using in on an old Manafroto field tripod and it works nicely.

I ordered this ball head after having an issue with my ball head. I was taking pictures of the glaciers in Alaska with a very heavy lens. The ball head did not hold the lens steady, and I dropped it. Luckily it only shattered my filter! This ball head is very sturdy, even with my heaviest lens. Although it is sturdy, I did not feel as if it added too much weight to the overall tripod. I felt that it was an awesome price for the amount of insurance it provided my equipment. No more crashing cameras or lenses. The camera remains still and stable for those long exposure shots. Quality construction.

This Neewer Low Profile DSLR Camera Tripod Ball Head would be fine except that it moves as you tighten down the drag/lock to secure its position. If you are using a telephoto lens the movement can be great enough to cause your subject framing to go so far off that you can't really take your picture. So, you have to loosen the lock and try to position the framing so that as you tighten the drag the movement brings your framing back to where you really want it to be. Basically you have to offset the original framing and then hope that as you tighten the drag/lock it will move back to where you want it to be (the movement is fairly consistent so you can usually estimate how much of an offset you'll need). Also, the large metal knob that is used to lock the ball head is very hard to grip since it is bare metal and has very little sculpting to aid in tightening the knob to a locked position. To fix that I attached a thin sheet of rubber around the knob that is held in place with a zip tie.Not the best design but I guess you get what you pay for (i.e. it's an inexpensive ball head).

Years ago when I first acquired tripod ball heads, prestigious brands, at a cost exceeding 5x that of this Neewer compact unit, I would have found such a bargain unbelievable and undeliverable. Yet moving up in time, I am in position to laud the quality of this compact design, yet still with a 44 mm. ball, (or 54 mm. if you wish,) to hold any photo gear weight without the slightest droop. In my example, using mirrorless equipment and prime lenses, the 44 mm. design is way more than adequate, smooth operation, ergonomically sound, and, while I would not argue it is indestructible, (as if any brand could be.) In event of a crash, I would be inclined to be more concerned about the mounted equipment, then the safety of the ball head. So no quibbling here about minor details such as the small "flipping" lever lock for rotation - a larger knob/lever would be more robust, but certain to get in the way! Some have reported stiffness in the pano rotation. However, my sample is silky smooth, unless I inadvertently overtighten the lock screws on the tripod mount. This serves as a caution, clearly a user error. For others, the location of the notches for the ball is not ideal for bird photography, to point the lens upwards. However, this is also a user misapprehension, since the notch location at the side, right angle to the forward notch, suits the purpose of expeditiously dropping the lens into "poor man's gimbal configuration." Most long lenses can accomplish that because they are able to rotate within their tripod collar for maintaining a landscape orientation. In any case, a full gimbal mount would be a more appropriate purchase for "birding" with telephoto lenses. Neewer does make one, which also appears to be bargain priced! I'm becoming a fan!

I bought this Neewer tripod mount to mate my Canon R5 with my CF-833 tripod. After a month of frequent use, I've been positively surprised by how *nice* it feels to use. It is lightweight, compact, and yet sturdy and supple. It doesn't feel cheap. What finally prompted me to leave a review was the discovery that the panoramic rotation lever actually has a spring-loaded release, in case it's too close to the tripod legs (remember, that this is a low-profile unit). This was a thoughtful touch, of the sort that is too often eliminated in cost-cutting today. All the features – including the panoramic rotation, have turned out to be pleasantly useful and practical in day-to-day shooting. I am happy that I chose this product over all the others.

This new ball head by Neewer was purchased to use on a Sirui AM-284 tripod. The ball head seems to be great. Knob placement is well thought out and the panning feature is excellent. The ball is quite large and does a good job of supporting an Olympus camera with a large 100-400 Panasonic Leica lens set in portrait mode to the side. Purchased for travel use, the head and tripod is just under 21" in length and about 3 3/4 pounds (the head is about 1 pound). The combination of head and tripod seems very sturdy. Since the tripod has no center column it compacts nicely and fits snugly in my luggage without taking up too much room. The head comes with a carrying case although I doubt that it will be used much. However if you were switching heads occasionally it will be nice to have.

With a 44 mm ball and weighing in at 1 pound 3 ounces, this is a beefy ball head. It's not your choice if you're hiking for miles and are only taking a quick snapshot with a small camera. This ball head is designed for heavy-duty use by someone who loves taking panoramic pics with a weighty camera/lens combo. The action is smooth with the knobs and the pano motion. I could hear the grease tension release when I loosened the ball knob, for whatever that's worth. The ball knob is very large but doesn't extend below the bottom of the head. The little pano tensioner handle can turn under the bottom of the head, but the handle is smartly designed to pull out for any needed ratcheting, with a spring to snap it back. Because of this, it's a tiny bit wobbly, and it's the only part I'd worry about breaking if I dropped the head directly on it on the concrete. It'd probably be alright, though.Even with a really low-profile QR plate on my camera, the QR clamp's knob did not run into my camera. It does stick up a mm or so from the top of the clamp, but that still gives acceptable distance to the camera when the camera is raised up by the height of the plate. Now for a big (little?) warning about the size of plate the clamp accepts.Different QR plates have different cinch point widths. That's the distance between the points on the plate where the top of the QR clamp teeth meet the plate, so it's smaller than the measurement across the whole width of the QR plate, which is usually around 38 mm. Plate length can vary a ton, but these width measurements can't.The 60-mm-long Neewer plate that comes with the ball head has a 33 mm cinch point. I happened to be testing a head that came with a 31-mm-cinch-point plate at the same time, and found an issue. The clamp on the Neewer head doesn't tighten to hold a 31-mm-cinch-point plate snugly, so a QR plate of that spec will rattle. Not good.It doesn't matter whether the widest part of the plate's bottom varies a little, but it does matter whether the plate you're using has the cinch point that's small. I tested it with a plate that has a 32 mm cinch point, and the Neewer QR clamp worked fine with one further caveat.I usually document roving action and I hand-shoot, so I prefer to have small, light QR plates on my cameras. The Neewer QR clamp's cutouts for the plates' little fall-prevention screws are a little far apart for some of these smaller plates. The distance is 32 mm from start to start.I have a plate with tiny heads on the fall-prevention screws, and they just barely fit. My other main plate has the screws the same distance apart on center, but it has wider screw heads that had to be removed for the plate to fit.If you are using a lens with its own QR plate that you'll only use on this ballhead, no problem. If you have a chunky plate on your camera or just plan to use the long one that comes with the ball head, no problem. If you have a smaller plate on something you'd like to put on this ball head, maybe measure that cinch point and the start-to-start distance between its fall-prevention screws, and be warned.Minus one star for the slightly wobbly pano tensioner handle, but more importantly, for not playing well with smaller QR plates. It seems the engineers did well internally, but didn't think about the variation in dimensions of the external products that should be compatible with theirs.Overall though, this ball head feels really good for the heavy pano purpose! You get a single adapter sleeve to go from a hole that's 3/8"-16 tpi to 1/4"-20 tpi, plus a happy, padded Neewer case for your big ball head, and an instruction manual that I'm prohibited from reproducing without permission…
