Has worked great for finding septic lines. Also works great for for things out of the back of the truck.

It has a really hard stainless steel point and the height helps me avoid constant bending- especially probing for gopher tunnels. It's very sturdy and has put up with the extra push needed to get through soil with a lot of gravel. You can quickly ID and feel the quick "give" when you hit a tunnel.

I just got this probe delivered today. I'm a plumber and use these regularly. This probe seems to be well made the only metal is the tip and it has a nice sharp point. The rest of it is fiberglass and is pretty strong. I tested it out soon as I opened the box. If you don't see me edit this review or post another one within 2 weeks then everything I said is true.

I do like this probe. Resistence is perfect. Light weight. ASTM printed on shaft. High visibility.

Great probe. A tad bit flimsy but osha has made it to where this is how they have to be to prevent shock. Use it couple times a month to probe for underground pipe and haven't had any trouble!

I used this to help locate my septic tank and it's definitely good for that. Pushing it into my soil was a bit easier than I feared, but still a bit of work, partly because it's so long. That means it's too tall to put your weight into the first thrust, though that's easier to do the deeper it goes. I'm about 5'11" and the handle comes up to the bottom of my sternum. The shorter you are the deeper this 4 foot rod would have to be in the ground before you could really "lay" into it. I wouldnt want it to be much shorter, but i wouldnt want it to be ANY longer. A few times I had to raise it up to jab it down with a little momentum instead of just pushing. That proved to be less than precise at stabbing the spot I was aiming for, but for this job that didn't matter much, as long as I didn't hit my own foot! :-) Surprisingly I was able to get pretty deep without too much trouble, except when I hit rocks. Pulling it out was also some work, but I discovered twisting while pulling always worked. The rod sometimes flexed a bit more than expected, but never to the point where I feared it would break. Although a metal rod would likely be stiffer, it would also be heavier, not to mention electrically conductive, a disadvantage I might otherwise have faced on some future job. A metal one could also get permanently bent. I'm happy with my decision. I also worried that the metal tip would come off while pulling, but it stayed intact. It's been several weeks since I used it, but I don't recall any discomfort from the handle.I wasn't thrilled with seeing a sticker--presumably mandated--with a brief warning about cancer and a website address, but frankly I don't recall what I learned from my visit there. If nothing else I took a bit of comfort knowing I was wearing work gloves and that I'm not pregnant, last I checked. :-)I'm happy with this purchase.
