I have been needing one of these for quite a while and finally got around to buying one. it is so nice to have, as I am restoring a classic car and it came with a big container of misc. bolts and as I remove old rusty bolts, it is nice to be able to know what the size/thread is to source new ones without having to go to the hardware store. the only thing about this that I dont understand is that it comes with 4 little thumb screws that i assume are to allow it to be placed on a table top.. but there are no holes on the backside to install them

I have a small container of miscellaneous nut and bolts all mixed together. You can imagine what a pain it'll be to look for just the right part. This checker is just what I need to sort through the headache. The board is hefty and feels heavy duty.

Honestly, when I saw this up for review my initial thoughts were 1) It's so simple, do I need it? and 2) Too pricey for such simplicity. I think I was wrong on both! I am a novice DIYer, I don't do any big projects that take much skill, but I do "projects" - some of which are more successful than others. This simple little thing has saved me more time than I could imagine - from sitting there looking at random bolts trying to figure out which one matches one that I know its size on, or if failing at that having to go to the home improvement store and look like an idiot to some of these grizzled vets trying to figure out what I've got and what I need, this thing is a God send!I also want to mention that I am impressed by the quality. Every piece of this feels like its made from metal. It also feels solid and looks sharp - its kind of shiny/reflective which I like. It is made in China but most things are nowadays, while I haven't used it for long I scratched at it a little and it still looks good as new so I currently have zero durability concerns. I would highly recommend this as a very good bolt and nut thread checker!

If you have a need to sort through a collection of nuts and bolts collected over the years from various projects, or simply need to ensure your hardware is up to spec before you commit to starting on your project, this bolt and nut sizing gauge should suit your needs with style. A great addition to any mechanic’s or handyman’s shop.This gauge is a thick, solid piece of sheet aluminum featuring (as far as I can tell) accurate threads and bolts and covering the range of the most common metric and imperial units hardware.While testing the gauge against some of my known hardware, I found no inconsistencies.One concern I did happen to stumble upon however, is that, while testing an audio speaker post thread, I managed to scratch the surface of the screw gauge with a sharp soldering tab protruding from the speaker post (see photos). This has led me to believe that the painted finish may not be as durable as it appears, so you might refrain from tossing this gauge in with your junk bin or other tools where it might get scratched and may want to use greater care not to drop hardware onto the lettering/labels of the gauge. I may be exaggerating a bit here, but be forewarned. Heck, you might want to even consider applying a plastic laminate over the labeling if you expect to use this gauge in a commercial or production capacity.My only other concern about this gauge is that the lettering/labeling can be difficult to read with certain lighting conditions. The reflective surfaces cause the painted lettering to disappear against the background of the gauge under certain lighting conditions.
