So it’s really unfair for me to give a one star review as the item never worked. I paired it with a Samsung came ssd 960evo which worked prior to using the adapter and works now in my desktop however when plugged in no light no data nothing. Looking at it it looks like it should work fine but just wasn’t the case. Now, if it worked I would say the only issue is lack of protection . Definitely should offer an add on case as this thing is flimsy and exposed to anything near your usb port.

Needed to use this in a pinch and it worked perfectly. It does heat-up quite a-lot so do be careful.

Bought early May 2023. Used to clone a drive for more capacity. When I bought it, I did not notice that the description includes wording that suggests it will not work with the Samsung disk cloning software. However it worked fine. Used Samsung Magician to clone an Intel 350 gb SSD to a Samsung SSD 980 1Tb with no issues whatsoever. It recognized the Samsung right away.

Adding an older, slower gen 3 ssd to these and then using it on Raspberry Pi 4 as a boot drive (or for /home) is an excellent use case. One problem you should know about is, don't use these with dramless SSDs. NVME version 1.2 can use a bit of system dram as the index for file locations, in fact dramless SSDs are normally "just fine", but on these USB daughterboards, they seem not to do this trick. I think the demise of a Sabrent dramless drive I had was due to using it on these adaptors. It got very hot and very slow, eventually just refusing to hold onto even a low level format. But any SSD with dram should be performant enough for the USB 3.0 interface, in fact, should normally saturate it. Another good use case is to pick up by now very cheap Optane 800p or even m10s (as 16gb is enough for Raspberry Pi OS.) I have a cluster running this way, boot drives are these old Optane accelerator SSDs on these adaptors. (RPi 4 can boot from USB.) It is a huge step up from SD cards, allowing room leftover for 1GB of suddenly very durable and fast (compared to SD card) swap space.Just avoid putting a dramless SSD on these.
