Portions are too small, for what you pay. But they taste good

These taste EXACTLY like canned tortellini, nothing unique in terms of flavor.the real trick is the heating, fill about a third of the bag with water and let it sit, after a few minutes the heaeting element is soaked and kicks off. bam. you got hot dinner. (well half a dinner anyway more on that later)it works as advertised.. and taste reasonable well as long as you like canned food.DOWNSIDE. at the end of the event you have more waste than the amount of food you got.the other thing is, there are not enough FOOD in the bag, and the heating element could easily heat twice the food, I tried dropping two "food pouches" into one bag and it was perfectly heated. I sail and hike, and 250ish calories is simply not enough for a meal. Finally, the amount of waste makes this a somewhat poor choice for backpacking, as you will have a lot to pack back out.. the heating brick is now wet and weigh about the same as the meal pouch did by itself.I like the product because of its emergency situation convinience, and have been known to pop a pack while sailing because its a quick simple way to heat food when water is coming over the dodger. You CAN use this for hiking, but probably most appropiate for short hikes, a couple backs will feed a person for a overnight hike without having to bring a camp stove, but with a big penalty in stuff to pack back out.

The portion size is way to small for the price ... The only thing I like about this MRE is the heater.

Omeals offer a great "camping" experience for ready to eat meals, especially for kids due to the fun science aspect of how they are heated. Strongly recommend you try them. My kids even love to have them when friends come over because of the experience.

So, yeah... I guess if you want something that gives you less food than a MRE at close to the same price, this is your lucky day. So I'll start with the positive:So, the heating element in this worked tremendously well. That right there is a d*mn fine heater. It works. Yup, And I mean it got the meal really, REALLY hot, just ignore the 3-5 minutes as this thing steamed for almost ten minutes on me.Yeah, so... That was positive. As for the food. The food was Dollar Tree quality as far as taste goes, it's a really small portion, it's just.. I honestly want to say something positive about it, but I can't think of anything. it's bland, i mean if you're starving it's food, but... I wouldn't go out of my way to grab this. In fact in my food canister I keep in my car, the dog biscuits would get eaten before this. I wasn't expecting 5 Star Italian restaurant food, but I expected it to be at least as edible as Chef Boyardee. I would not take this camping (even park and camp) and I wouldn't buy this as survival food in an emergency. Actually I take that last part back, at least with this there would be absolutely no chance of me randomly deciding to eat it, it would take an emergency.

Self heating is a joke, barely hot. Taste was really bland

The meals are actually quite tasty. Amazing self heating is versatile because you can use the hot liquid to warm up other stuff like instant coffee inside the envelope.
