At first it was the right one. But as I took it to the mechanic he said it had a baring that was way too big and can’t fit my snowblower. I’m gonna return it and find one with a small sized barring so I can get my snowblower fixed.

This was a PERFECT FIT for my Troy Bilt snowblower. The overall length IS 21”. I did NOT have to make any adjustments to the auger like other reviewers mentioned. There was NO rubbing of the rubber. Remember to keep the brass washer that is on the external thread that is on the belt side. You ONLY get the auger, no additional parts come with this. Before I installed the new auger, I greased everything that the auger was attaching to. Internal and external threads were greased, I cleaned up the bearings that go on the axle on each side, I used PB Blaster lubricant on the bearings to keep these lubricated this stuff is the best.I used it on the shoot too because the shoot was sticking and now it rotates nice and smooth again. I also flipped the shave plate around so now I have a nice edge again. All in all this was very simple to replace. I’m not a mechanic but I am very handy, it took about 15 - 20 minutes to install the auger itself. Shipping took about 4 days by UPS. I ordered Sunday and received it Thursday afternoon. One more thing to add, just like other reviewers, is the large belt pulley with the 3 access holes on it, the nut is a CLOCKWISE thread. So forget the lefty loosy righty tighty method! Lol the nut is lefty tighty righty loosy. It’s a opposite thread. If you try to turn the nut to the left, your tightening it even more. After you break it loose, of course the entire nut and pulley come off because the nut is welded on to it. Hopefully this will assist some of you. Very happy with the purchase. Saved me around $80 from other sellers out there. Other sellers we’re selling it for way over $100 plus shipping. $55 is simple math!

I had my doubts, but I think it is better engineered than the original 19-year-old auger that I had to re-weld twice. This design does not have metal reinforcement in back of the rubber helix and the rubber helix is much heavier than the original and quite stiff and looks like it will last a long time. My lack of 5 stars is due to the fact that I had to take a very course belt sander to some of the outer edge of the rubber to get it to clear the sheet metal on the auger housing. It was quite a bit of work, but worth the effort. The auger fits and spins okay now. A very good value overall.

FAST delivery. First snowfall and wait time at the local repair shop was many days that I didn't have. Ordered on Saturday and arrived Tuesday. Install was easy for this small engine beginner using just 3/8 and 1 inch socket wrenches after watching a couple YouTube videos. Left hand threads on the pulley wheel is a REALLY handy fact I would not have known without the videos!!! Glad I brought the machine inside the day before to work on it warm. Used scrap plastic bread bag under the cap to keep fuel from slopping out kept the house from stinking up with fuel. Seems like an exact fit. Worked perfectly on first use after install. Will update if opinion changes.

The screw threads on my unit were smashed on the end; I could not get the pulley to thread onto it. The threads were "protected" by a cardboard cube on the end of the threaded rod, but it was clear that the rod easily pushed straight through this block. Seems like it was dropped during shipping. I'll admit, the cardboard block did limit the damage to the very end of the rod, so I guess it worked in a sense. I notified the vendor about this and they asked for pictures to confirm the thread damage and authorize an RMA. Since I was expecting some heavy snow in the next few days, I took a chance and just cut off a half inch from the end of the threaded rod and I was able to install it fine after that. It was not that hard to cut through with a regular old hacksaw. This obviously voids any chance of returning it, so do this at your own risk. I am just reporting that it should work fine if your threads are damaged and you can't or don't want to wait through a return process.Once installed, this made my 20 year old MTD snow blower work like new. Holy cow I never knew it could still throw snow as far as it did. Just a small tip, since you have to take the pulley off to replace the auger, you might as well replace the drive belt if it hasn't been changed in a while. I'm pretty sure MTD did not intend for this auger to be replaced so it takes some flexing of the housing to get the old one out and the new one in place. I didn't have to flex it much, but I feel it should be mentioned in case someone comes across this issue and thinks the auger is too long or something.Make sure you find an owner's manual for your specific snow blower. It will have a parts list with specific part numbers to look for, don't trust a vendor's word that it will fit your model of snow blower; do your own research.
