It has a larger design to cover the newer GM Truck applications. Application: 2011 and newer HD C/K Trucks. When servicing the lower control arm of the front suspension on GM trucks, or replacing a torsion bar, it is necessary to remove the spring pressure from the suspension. In order to do this, a clamp, called a torsion bar unloader, can be positioned on the frame and the torsion bar mount. The drive screw of the torsion bar unloader is tightened, removing pressure on the torsion bar mount. The mount can then be removed along with the torsion bar.

I had another tool similar to this but it wasn’t big enough. This tool was perfect for the job and is made very well. I have never been disappointed with OTC specialty tools. It may be a bit overpriced but it’s worth it.

Skip the cheap knock offs and buy a name brand tool. A torsion bar tool is such a critical piece of safety equipment, why cheap out for some face $20 one....This is a very nice tool, typical of all the OTC stuff I have. I used this for a 2001 Tahoe and it worked perfect.

Everything about this tool is 5 star except the price. I have a lot of tools but specialty tools like this most likely get used only once but you have no choice so I believe that's what justifies the cost. The tool is made very well and never showed any sign of being stressed, it just did it's job as it should have. I did not use an impact wrench on this because space was tight on jack stands but a 1" socket and a 1/2" drive ratchet was all that was necessary to get the job done. I highly recommend purchasing this tool as the manufacturer of the MaxxCam keys sells theirs for over $150.00. I'm still ahead if you look at it that way.

Excellent tool! I needed this to install a leveling kit on a 2016 Duramax and it worked like a charm. I have the previous model (7822A) but it simply wouldn't fit with the redesign of the torsion bar crossmember GM did in 2011. Would definitely buy again (but doubtful I'll ever need to replace it)

Works great! Should last forever. Best way to use it is to first remove the torsion bar adjusting bolt completely, and then place this tool. Just a couple turns of the screw and the tension will be off the wedge so it can be removed and the torsion can then be released.

Tool worked great for unloading the torsion bars on my 2012 2500HD. Used the supplied lube on the tool threads and floor jack with jack stands to minimize the amount of force required to unload bars. Worked great!

product is well built and functions well, didn't fit my vehicle right. When I returned it they charged me $49 for the return.
