The box had a puncher hole in it but the unit works great no damage. Heat works and the light works. I'm very happy with it. I haven't tried it in the cold yet because the temp went up to 50 but it looks to me it will work just fine.

I did not even try the heating function yet as the legs must be installed first since the heater would otherwise be touching the floor but I was really primarily wanting a realistic-looking "fireplace", anyway. Sadly, the flame effect is very disappointing- it is weak, sparse and lacking color. Also, the "log" is a depressing whitish-grey and appears not as part of the flame effect, rather as something that just sits there in front of the weak and mostly colorless flame effect. It has side windows but the sad little "flame" appears more like a warped funhouse-mirror version of a candle from that view. The "flame" is best viewed looking down at it and straight-on rather than at any angle which limits placement in the room. I am a Prime member but to return this I would have to pay $23.30 AND take it to UPS myself so for that reason ONLY I will be stuck with it. Be sure whatever you buy says "free returns" on Amazon! Very disappointed by Amazon for their inconvenient and annoying return options (and for their not making it VERY CLEAR that returns on an item are NOT FREE)- if I have to drive to a store or to a UPS office, why do I need Amazon?
