If you are working on your suspension fork you need this. I was struggling to remove a tight top nut and my usual adjustable spanner was just not stable enough to get enough force on it. Using this flat socket was the only way.

I ordered the wrong size but I could use a 24mm 3/8" drive socket anyway. Would work great for removing the cap on a fork's air chamber

i was going to buy a cheap socket to grind down, but this wasn't much more and it was ready to go. Sure it's not absolutely mandatory, but don't risk rounding off the soft aluminum caps on your fork. If you like to wrench on your own bike, just pick one of these up...

I use this not just on my bikes, but also on my car as well. It can get excellent purchase because it's flat face engages the bolt head better than anything else. It's expensive for a bike-specific tool, so use it everywhere and it becomes a bargain.
