What a wonderful thing this is! Maybe not perfectly balanced from one string to the next but not super noticeable. That said I love it! A wonderfully inexpensive way to bring a guitar to life. You'll need some kind of DI box or amp with some eq as it's a bit dark or biased towards the base end or at least mine is so I have to turn the base down and the treble up and it's all good. I'd say it's the most realistic sounding acoustic pickups I've ever owned. Glad I got the one with the volume knob too. It's dead silent so far and keeps me from having to adjust volume at the amp all the time. So for $10 bucks or whatever it's a great value and works very well. I also got the strap button add-on for $12 and glad I did. If you use a strap it's a nice and I would say necessary addition. so I guess I spent about $70 for all of that. I'm stoked!! :)

Nutshell review: For $50, it's an ok grab, but be prepared to spend A LOT of time with the EQFull Review and usage: I got this as a budget pick for the Pure Mini. Since I was using it to work with an ES2 setup the small plug saved me some time over a pure mini. (Old Taylor, ES1.1 was completely shot and unsalvageable). I knew I was taking a chance, but I understand guitar electronics (electric guitar amateur Luther to some extent, just no tools or knowledge to work on the wood aspects of it all), and when I talked to the guy who does my amp work, he agreed that the ES2 Preamp should clean up anything missing from using this over the pure mini. With the opportunity to save a step and salvage the existing ES2 Piezo bar (should I ever pull the system out and sell it) I went with this solely for the easy plugging. When I first installed the pickup (with super glue) I did not have everything I needed to complete the mod, so I rolled with just the pickup, straight to stage. Out the gate, I was less than impressed. I ran it into an LR Baggs Para Acoustic that my other guitars work phenomenally though (including my Alverez Masterworks w/pure mini installed). This was the worst sounding of my stable, possibly ever. I am a touch picky, so I'm biased, but it is what it is. For $50, it's an ok grab, but be prepared to spend A LOT of time with the EQ.All said and done, I will eventually replace it with the pure mini. The Lows are boomy (except for G, which is missing almost all together????) and the pickup sounds much more like a under saddle than what it is trying to be (a budget pure mini).

Have tried many pickups, this one is definitely among the best, the volume control is a must.

For those with some wiring skills despite what you may have read about impedance/incompatibility etc…between the internal preamp that came with your guitar(UST)and one of these SBT Journey pickups is simply not true.I have successfully wired one of these Journey pickups into two of my guitars with Fishman Sonicore internal UST pickups and soundhole mounted preamp/volume tone controls. It sounds amazing!I just cut the wire from the existing UST under the saddle and spliced/soldered /shrink shielded the three pickups to that wire after cutting the jack off of the Journey pickups.I read many many posts on Internet forums warning me not to attempt doing this simple modification. But I went for it and now I have a great pickup in my Martin and Guild guitars and onboard controls and convenience!
