I bought this quite awhile back and never used it. I just got a couple new puppies, so thought I would try to use it with them to housebreak them. Pushed the button, and nothing, as in the little light on it didn't light up. So, I thought since it was sitting for so long, it must be the battery went bad, so I opened up the case and found that the wires to the battery were quite literally cleanly cut, as if the 2 ends were supposed to be soldered together but weren't. This had never been opened before, so it must've come this way in the package :| It didn't work because there was no power due to the cut wires, so couldn't even see if it worked to help train my puppies.

Works every time. Dogs head tilts everso slightly when using, so I know he is getting the signal! Love it! I've had this Minnie Schnauzer rescue for about 4 months now and he has had severe fear barking problems. Even at the drive-thru fast food establishments upon hearing a loud voice over the loudspeaker. So much so, I could not give my order. Also when new dogs are walking by with their Owners, he would go berserk, while looking out the front storm door. Crazy thing is he is so attached to me since the first day he stepped into the house. He is my 5th Minnie Schnauzer and they are barkers, but never like my Charlie. The thing is he is the most affectionate one of the 5. He adores me, maybe because I give him so much love and physical touch. I think, in time, with the help of this Pet Safe Bark Control, he will learn. Actually sometimes when he sees it in my hand, he does not bark. This gadget has been a life-saver for our bonding process too because it was making me very nervous having to deal with what appeared to be a vicious dog to my neighbors, (one of whom passes with his two dogs every morning) of which named him "Juvie" in the beginning. Now he reaches his hand over the fence, pets him on his head and says, "Hey, Buddy"! There is hope, so don't give up on your 'loudmouth' pooch, I highly recommend this product!

Leider

This really worked for my very smart 1 yo border collie. She took to barking a lot when in our 6ft block fenced backyard. Used this twice and she has been quiet since. She would also be bothersome if we ate on the sofa. Used once and now no issues. Used same commands of 'no bark' and 'get down' along w treat when she stopped behavior with 'good girl no bark' and 'good girl get down'.Also of note I had returned a cheaper brand from China that did not work. Quality on this brand is worth the extra cost.BUT.....I was bragging to my son how well it worked, he looked into ultrasound training devices and found it works as negative reinforcement. Many studies showing this does not work and positive reinforcement is the way to go. It may also hurt the dogs ears in a way that makes them anxious. I don't want her sweet disposition to change and certainly do not want to hurt her.Yes, it was easier to point this at her and have her stop. Without it will take longer to train her to stop barking and involves more interaction from me. In the long run, she will be better for it.

The battery doesn't easily fit but can be done. The device is works really well. Our two little dogs stop barking immediately after pressing the button once. They are barking a lot less and it doesn't seem to negatively effect them. Tails keep wagging but no barking. Very happy with product.

First off, this can be very effective when used correctly and humanely. I bought it because it is an alternative to shock, but my dog clearly found it very aversive, so it is important to take care in how you use it, especially if your dog has an observable reaction to it. I suspect a problem could be made worse if a dog becomes very fearful.I was having a problem with my dog licking the floor incessantly and to the point of actually ruining the floor. Her vet said the licking was not health related. I started by trying to keep her mouth with engaged with Kongs, raw hides, and toys, but she preferred the floor. Here are some things that I think are important for using this:Have some training bits and reward your dog for doing what you want them to do instead. For instance, if they bark, you can reward a low growl or quiet. If they jump, you can prompt them to not do that by putting their leash around your ankle and then having someone reward them when they don't jump on them.Don't use this until you can use it consistently for a period of time, it is important to catch every instance (and quickly!) in the beginning. Using it inconsistently will confuse the dog and allow the dog to possibly become desensitized to the sound before the behavior is eliminated. For instance, if you work weekdays, start on a Friday night, keep it with you, and catch every instance all weekend. You will still need to be consistent after that, but the beginning is most important. If this is going to work, you will know it after using this consistently for a few days because the behavior will decrease significantly.I was careful to use this for only one behavior (licking), even though my dog does some other things I would like to discourage. Now that licking has been eliminated, I will consider using it for some other behavior. It is probably not a good idea to threaten or warn the dog with this. They will likely learn to stop when you warn or threaten, but they will still initiate the behavior as frequently. The warnings will also probably stop working over time.If you have more than one pet, that could be a problem unless they tend to get in trouble together. You could end up punishing the dog who is behaving.Of course, for the best dog behavior, I think it is also important to walk your dog, play with them and try to keep them engaged.(I am not an expert, these are just some suggestions from someone who used this successfully)This has a great battery life, much better than a vibrating/noise collar that I tried before.
