This is the first speedlight I've owned, despite having a Canon DSLR for about 15 years now. I don't usually use flash in my photos as I don't tend to take many shots of people. That being said, I loaded it up with batteries and tested it out with my 50mm lens, which is best for portraits. The manual sheet included is written for an advanced user, someone who already has experience with speedlight flashes, so it was a little slow going to try and slog through. I ended up just connecting it to the hot shoe and playing with the settings. It was nice to be able to adjust the intensity of the flash and avoid washout of the subject. I found that angling it upwards and using the built-in reflector helped by adding light to the entire room as well as to the subject, making light metering and focusing easier for the camera.I have not used it on the stand as a slave unit flash because I am still trying to figure out the wireless controls and how the remote works. There is one quick sentence in the instructions regarding the remote before launching into the instructions for using the flash remotely, so I'll need more time to play with those functions.Overall, it seems to be a simple and functional piece of equipment. I'll have to looks for some tutorials on how to use it most effectively, but I think I should get the hang of it.One thing of note, the gels for coloring the light don't appear to have a holder, and they're larger than the lens of the flash itself, allowing white light to leak around them. The only way I've found to hold them in place is with the astigmatism plate that pulls out from the flash head, and the velcro holder is odd. I'm not really sure what to do with it or the length of velcro that was included in the box.

I used this on my Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR cameras and it works fantastically. It fits right in the bracket on the top of the camera. I'm a complete novice when it comes to DSLRs and the accessory equipment that can be used with them. The flash has several ports on it and I wasn't sure what any of them were for. I had assumed I was going to have to connect the flash to the camera with a cable somehow. I was extremely surprised and very happy to figure out that no, ilthe flash and camera do not have to be connected via a cable. I'm assuming the flash is listening for the clicking of the camera taking the picture and uses that click to time the flashes. It works very well. The flash is versatile as you can increase or decrease the intensity of the flash. The portion that actually flashes can be angled to be straight up and inline with the base or it can be angled to be perpendicular to the base.Testing out the flash and taking some pictures of my daughter yielded pictures where the flash was so bright that her face was completely washed out and was overly white. This continued to happen even after completely decreasing the flash intensity. I ended up having to angle the flash mostly upwards and that fixed that issue. One thing that I wasn't thrilled about is that it runs off of 4 AA batteries. Ugh, I'm going to have to keep batteries on hand. However, one the product page it showed that one of the ports was to plug in and to charge rechargeable batteries. So it seems you can purchase rechargeable batteries and they can be charged in the flash unit itself. I do not have any of those batteries so I was not able to test this. This flash unit does come with a fabric bag for carrying and it also comes with a piece that is supposed to be able to remotely trigger the flash. I actually haven't figured out how to use this or it just doesn't work. For me, it's not s big deal so even if the remote is faulty, I'm completely satisfied with this unit and it's relatively inexpensive as these units seem to get real expensive real quickly. One odd thing I did run into is that the product box says that the model is the Speedlite FK580G-C. That model is clearly written on the box that the product came in. I couldn't find the product manual after opening the box (it's possible I misplaced it and not the fault of the company). I attempted to google the model number only to run in an issue where not only could I not find the product manual, I can't find that specific model anywhere. Even going to the company's webpage and sorting through all of their products yielded no results whatsoever. So, I'm not quite sure what to make of that.
