How A Crossover Is Used
The Planet Audio EC20B three-way electronic crossover is a high-fidelity signal processor that allows you to customize the low level output of your input source (a car radio), so that the signal can be applied to an amplifier or amplifiers as a part of a two-way or three-way mobile audio system. It is intended for use in a car audio system which includes amplifiers in the signal path after the crossover, and provides front, rear, and subwoofer low level outputs via RCA connectors.
Parallel Input Selection
The EC20B is optimized for head units which provide outputs for Front (UR), Rear (UR), and Subwoofer (UR) channels. But what if your head unit only provides a single pair of stereo (UR) outputs? By setting the Parallel Input selector control to Out, the signal applied to the Front (UR) EC20B inputs will also be routed to the Rear channel. This eliminates the need for external Y-adaptors, which can sometimes add noise to the system. Now you can provide custom processing to the Rear channel independent of the settings you apply to the front.

Front Channel Crossover Multiplier
By providing a way for you to select a frequency from either a Mids/Highs range or a Tweeter range for the Front channel crossover, we give you the choice to use this crossover in different applications. For example, you can use the Front channel as a stereo Tweeter channel by setting the Crossover Frequency Multiplier to the higher 800Hz-8kHz range, and Rear channel can serve as the Mids/Highs channel, for a three-way stereo system. Or you could create a four-channel system, with Front and Rear channels reproducing the Mids/Highs.
Subwoofer Input Mix Option
Many head units also lack a subwoofer channel output. In this situation, by setting the Sub Input control to Mix, the EC20B sub channel controls will be delivered a mix of L Front/Rear to the Subwoofer Left Channel and a mix of the R Front Rear to the Subwoofer Right channel. This eliminates the need for external Y adaptors and mixer devices.

- Power LED
- Front And Rear L/R Inputs: Connect the outputs of your head units to these connections and be sure to place the Parallel Input selector in the In position.
- Parallel Input Selector: If your audio source only has one pair of RCA inputs, placing this switch in the Out position allows the signal source connected to the front inputs to also be routed to the rear channel of the EC20B.
- Sub Input Source Selector: If your audio source lacks a subwoofer channel output, placing this switch in the Mix position will apply a mix of the front and rear channel of each of the left and right inputs to the EC20B sub channel input.
- Subwoofer Channel Input: Connect the subwoofer channel of your head unit to these connectors and place the Sub Input selector in the Direct position. If no sub channel outputs are available, see "Sub Input Source," above.
- +12V, Ground And Remote Turn-On Terminals: Use this control to select the highest frequency to be sent to the subwoofer channel. Choose a frequency between 32 Hz and 250Hz.
- Fuse Connector: Use only fuse with 3A rating.

Front And Rear Channel Controls
- High Pass Crossover: Use this control to set the lowest frequency which will pass through the Front (or Rear) Channel of your system.
- High Pass Crossover Frequency Multiplier (front channel only): This selector sets the frequency range for the high pass crossover. Choose the x1 position for 40Hz-400Hz range, or x20 for 800Hz-8kHz range.
- Crossover Slope: Crossover slope determines how rapidly the drop-off in sound level, measured in decibels/octave, occurs at the frequency selected by the crossover. One octave is equal to one-half of the currently selected frequency. For example, if you set the crossover to 80Hz and the slope to 18dB, the level at 40Hz to be 18dB lower than at 80Hz.
- Output Level Control: This control allows you to independently set the output level of the channel.

Had the item for one month and within three weeks signals started getting static, speakers started popping, unit failed and they no longer accept returns after 30 days. No warranty. Stay away.

I have a 2020 f150 lariat with the b&o sound system. The basic upgrade for a sound system sucks and ford should be ashamed for calling it that. I added new speakers all around and two 12 in subs. I did not want to replace the head unit, so i bought an interface. The sound was not that great. I did not want to spend several hundred more on a processor and i decided on this. Man was this perfect for me. I was able to get the system tuned up in no tome and now the subs hit like they should. Very happy with this and amazed at the price

This crossover is great, it will give your overall audio extra power, the bass will hit harder and it amplifies the highs too, it’s like your buying a new amp and sub when you add this, I highly recommend this paired with a good amp and a capacitor, also I really like the bass gain control, it has the ability to lower the bass to the point where I can’t hear it at all and that’s with the bass gain turned up slightly higher than normal on the amp. No gain control I’ve ever had has ever been able to lower it to the point where I can’t hear it at all.

This crossover is just too cool! Its really easy to use. As for the sound improvement? Yes. I was running a four channel amp and the sound was good.. The crossover enhanced the sound in my ride. This cross over has given depth to my systems sound. The highs are more clear. The midrange is more distinct. I listen to hard rock.. So the example is the lead singers vocals appear to be higher than the guitar. In other words this cross over has given my system a 3D effect.. lol. The sounds are more balanced. The unit is small and will easy in most spaces. Also.. The unit can be powered by 16 gauge wire.. I used 10 gauge. The power ports are small and you need to plan on using a smaller gauge wire. like 10.. 8 gauge will probably be to big. So the power requirements are not as demanding as other components. This cross over can take 1-2-3 channels from your head unit and convert them to high, mid and bass channels! So no matter what type head you have, this units can take those signals and prep them up to send to your amp. IT ALSO COMES WITH A REMOTE FOR YOUR SUB-WOOFER. So in closing you get a small component, small power requirements, good price, very versatile and great sound enhancement. Its worth buying. I highly recommend this product. I hope your experience is as great as mine.

Awesome and has depth. The 6 to 18 db ajustment is great. It increase sound by 20 percent with limited distortion. I have more depth to tweak stuff and increases sound quality in your ride.

This is a very good product the price was good and this crossover took my system to a another level the bass dropped deeper (I'm using two ten inch subs) and the highs are crisp even at low volume.

This is an excellent crossover for the price and is the only one I've found that had the frequency and slope options I needed. With a 24/db lowpass of 250hz down to 32hz and bass boost 0 to +12db down to 25hz, you will not find another xover with this kind of flexibility near this price range.I'm using this xover for my sub channel only so I can't comment on the front/rear output. The EC20B combined with my amplifiers lowpass and subsonic filter allows me to get the exact slope needed for great sound quality in almost any application. Crossovers 2x and even 3x the price often do not have the frequency range or offer as steep of a slope.I've used the EC20B with four 15's in a SPL setup and again in a SQ setup with two Alpine SWR1024d. Both times this xover allowed me to get the response I needed. I was skeptical at first about the brand/price but the EC20B is now a key component in my installation.

Recently added a sub to my car with an older amp that did not have a low pass filter. This solved the situation beautifully. Now my subs are no longer trying to cover the mids as well.Add to that the remote volume control and now I can easily dial the bass back when I have those who cant handle it in the care or let it fly when I am on my own.*** Oct 2013This unit continues to be in service and is doing the job nicely. I am raising it to 5 stars.
