Worked for me...but thin material on hex part that you use to thread in....they stay in tho and don't come out...used 3/8" internal thread and tightened tight! I used on maple ( hardwood) so went slightly larger with pilot hole....maybe better for soft woods

I honestly have zero faith in these inserts if there's any kind of load on the internal threads. They're just too brittle. Case in point, the upper portion that you use to screw them in will crumble as you get close to having them in. I doubt they're designed to be breakaway, but you will end up with the threads in and you'll be breaking off what's left of the top collar. Again, not bad unless you want to remove them at some point.Thankfully, I'm just using them for tap handles. Nothing major.

Just went through 4 of these trying to get them into a piece of wood I was turning. Head area broke away in every case.

I ordered these before checking the reviews. Lots of bad reviews concerning breaking. These are not high end solid stainless inserts, and the price reflects that. Use a scrap piece of wood to determine drill size. Hard woods will require a slightly larger hole. I installed these in a kiln dried black walnut slab. Used the correct size drill bit and epoxy for adhesive and lubricant to make them go in a little easier. Installed 20 with no failures.

These are poor quality. The first one went in ok, the next one the hex top tore apart right before I could finish putting it in.You get what you pay for, and if you aren't willing to go to your local hardware store and get something quality or don't care that much at least test this in a piece of scrap wood before using it so you will know if it will shear off and ruin your project.

Not a lot to say about a threaded insert. Works fine.
