These things are extremely dangerous! I've been turning for over a decade, and have seen tool failures before. These have failed in a way I have never seen before, with the largest gouge chisel snapping several inches behind the tool rest, and went flying through my shop. Still have no been able to find the broken half. But, examining the metal where it broke, these are absolutely poorly made. I immediately packed away the rest, and returning these. You absolutely get what you pay for, and when doing something as dangerous as wood turning, please, do NOT go with the cheapest or quickest-to-arrive item. Spend more money on a quality tool, and you could literally save your life.

obviously not the best quality. I’ve been using the tools for about a year and have had to sharpen and re grind them. good for getting started definitely the cheapest option i’ve found. If you fall in love with turning after this tool set you can get better tools later.

Out of the box there was only 2 of the tools cut as it should. Neither of the roughing gouges were ground correctly. They were both so thin at the cutting edge that there were visible waves in the cutting edge out of the box. I would return them, but I've already purchased a bench grinder to try and fix the poorly formed cutting edges. They lose an edge fairly quickly.

If you are just starting out in wood turning you can't go wrong for the price. These tools are perfect for you to get the hang of what each one does and hone your skill without breaking the bank. The set is exactly as advertised, and good quality for the cost. Like with any other tool, you need to keep it sharp. Keep it sharp and they work great!Customer service is outstanding! One of the tools in the set was bent a little and within 24 hours a new replacement was being shipped to me.

These are excellent beginner chisels. Don't listen to the bad reviews on these chisels, as I've been using them for a couple months now and haven't had any issues with them. They work very well with hardwoods like Purpleheart and Kingwood, they sharpen pretty easily, and as long as you're not using them incorrectly, they will last.

I’m new at woodturning, literally only having practiced a couple of times, so catches are to be expected. I suppose. Saying that, these tools seem weak as I’ve bent two of them. Now, I’m turning on a Wen 8”x12” so it’s not really that strong a lathe I would imagine. Perhaps in more experienced hands these tools would work and create phenomenal pieces. In mine? Disaster has struck twice and in need of a new scraper and gouge. So I give it 3 because I know part if not most of the issue is me....... and they bent.

My rating is based on this being an inexpensive starter set. For roughly 1/4 the price of the next grade of turning tools, this set really can't be beat for a beginner. Like any other turning tools, they will dull with use, but they come fairly sharp out of the box and will take care of you as long as you take care of them. I've had no issues turning softer blanks like walnut or harder ones like purpleheart. I'll try turning poplar and cocobolo to hit the extremes and adjust my review as needed. For pens and small items on my 8x12 lathe, I can't foresee myself needing a "better" set.
