This movement was purchased as a replacement for the original movement in an outdoor clock/thermometer. Installation took @ 5 minutes. Keeps perfect time (typical for a quartz movement). CAUTION: This movement did not come with a cover to protect the movement from the weather. I was able to use the cover from the original movement.

Purchased exact replacement Quartex Q-80, to replace same model movement that had been in service for 6+ years, featuring 1/2" thickness & 15/16" Hand Shaft Length. Item arrived quickly with very good threaded shaft protective cap in place to prevent shipping damage. Decided to run this new movement with included new hands installed for 24 hours prior to installing into clock case; just to make sure it wasn't going to be too noisy. Of interest, the supplied hour hand, which is a press-on interference style fit, was undersized and did NOT fit onto the new movement's hand shaft, so the old movement's hands were re-installed and slipped on nicely. Curiously, the new minute hand and new seconds hand from the new Q-80 movement fit without a problem, but for uniformity of style, the three old hands were re-used. With a brand new Duracell AA cell installed, the new Quartex Q-80 clock movement was placed flat on its back (horizontal position) and it started immediately, ran for 18 seconds, and stopped. No hand interference was observed, with at least 1/8" inch clearance between hands noted. The new AA cell was removed, and re-installed and the movement ran for one minute and 35 seconds...and stalled again (the seconds hand was not moving and no audible "clicking" was observed). Next, a new, verified 1.55 VDC, AA Duracell Alkaline battery was installed into the new Quartex Q-80 clock movement and the movement placed into the normal (vertical position), hands still installed. The movement then ran for 15 seconds and stopped. No clicking, no second hand pulsing. the battery was removed and reinstalled this time running for only 37 seconds prior to stopping again. As a final check, no binding or drag was noted when turning the rear adjusting wheel, and no binding or interference was detected visually when looking down into the hand shaft end of the movement. The final test was to run the movement with just the seconds hand installed. Two stalls occurred within 60 seconds. This appears to be an Infant mortality issue. Have returned unit to Amazon within 3 days of delivery. Replacement Quartex Q-80 movement #2 is now on order...lighting sage and whispering low voltage incantations might help...or not. Possibly just bad timing. Weatherbug.

I was surprised to find there's an industry standard for these clock mechanisms, and it was pretty easy to remove the old one and put the original clock hands on this unit. The mounting to the clock housing was slightly different, but if you're a bit handy, it's no problem to get this to fit. It's been running fine for several months now, I'll update if any problems occur, since I'm expecting it to go for years (the original was running for about 10 years and finally stopped responding to oil...)Just watch out for the dimensions and measure the old one - there are a few variations out there with different shaft diameters, etc! This unit had a slightly longer threaded shaft than the original, so I had to mount it back farther from the clock face with a few extra washers, but no obvious visual impact on the finished result!

The item came simply but safely packaged, with small parts in one bag and the hands backed by cardboard so they wouldn't be bent. There was a clear half sheet of instructions with a diagram showing how all the pieces went together. My only difficulty was threading one of the tiny nuts onto the tiny shaft without cross-threading it. Make sure that last nut is straight! Once I *finally* got it to go on correctly, everything worked perfectly.Note that the battery compartment is a *little* tricky to get a AA battery into. It's a very snug fit.

This product is remarkably easy to assemble, and a single AA battery made an old clock run like new! The second hand was an added bonus. The instructions are clear and concise, and the product arrived on time and with plenty of communication along the way.

This is the second brand of repair kit that I bought to try and so far it's working as advertised, This unit does make a faint ticking noise. The main difference is that the shaft is about 1/2" long so it can be used in clocks that have a thicker backing and/or face to go through, perhaps ones with a wooden back or face. Instructions were straight forward ( hands are delicate as per usual) and it was shipped from the U.S,A, So far it's working fine.

I have two custom made clocks in my house- one with our livestock brand on it and one in the shape of a heart that my grandfather made me when I was a young girl. The movements in both of these stopped within a few months of one another. (I was so sad!) Because these are custom clocks, I couldn't just get rid of it and replace them. So I bought these in hopes of repairing them myself! These absolutely did the trick. They worked perfectly for what I needed and my beautiful clocks are running again with their true times. (I even got to use the original hands on this movement instead of the ones that came with it!)

This works perfectly and was easy to install. The seller gave printed detailed instructions for installation. It also came with the necessary washers, nuts and clock hands; I was able to use my existing clock hands, though. The important thing to know about buying the "correct" size (for replacing a clock movement) is measuring the threaded portion of the stem and knowing the thickness of your clock face. It is better to buy a longer stem and add rubber washers between the clock movement and the back of the clock face, then to buy it too short (as it will not be installable). The shipping was quick and the movement seems to be accurate. FYI, the movement is made in China. This was also the best price compared to other sellers.

Thought I had gotten a bad unit at first. Only ran for less than a minute, then stopped. Changed battery and reset time and it did it again. Project was replacing unit in wife's favorite clock with same mechanism. I used the hands from the old unit, they went better with the clock and were a perfect mounting match on new unit, and, it turns out, bent the second hand a tiny amount putting it on. The second hand was hanging up on the minute hand, which was why it only ran for less than a minute. Un-bent it and it runs flawlessly. I thought it was brilliant sleuthing on my part. Of course it was my ham-handedness that caused it in the first place.
