I had been wanting a rain drum for awhile. I love the sound of wind chimes, and I thought a rain drum might be a nice addition to the back garden. To be honest, I've never had a rain drum before, so I didn't know what to expect.When I opened the package, it was smaller than I had envisioned, although the description does clearly say that it is 3 inches wide. There are 6 "tongues" cut into the drum, and it comes with a nice little drawstring bag and mallet to play the drum by hand.As far as the rain drum use goes, I didn't have any luck. You can see in the photo I uploaded, I placed it underneath a tree, and I had hoped that steady rain or drops from the tree landing on the drum would make a nice sound, but I ended up not hearing it at all. Perhaps I would do better to place it underneath a downspout, but I'd think then it may be too noisy. Hopefully I can find a spot to put the drum where it's a good balance receiving just enough rain to make it a nice addition to the back garden.The fact that it hasn't really worked well for me as a rain drum is probably not a fault of the drum itself. Although I would think a larger drum might do a better job of catching falling raindrops and making some sounds. But, as a small steel drum goes, this one is of excellent quality. It comes with a (not so useful) song book. This would make a nice toy gift for a child, or as a knick-knack for someone's home. It is very well made and constructed of heavy steel. I'm just a little disappointed that it didn't work very well for me as a rain drum. Still, it's a nice piece, well made, and makes a nice sound when played.
