It's a rain gauge. It's easy to read. My last one broke when it froze but this one has been through 2 hard freezes and it is just fine m

The extra large reservoir and large numbers make it easy to read. The stand goes into the ground easily and makes it convenient to plant in the yard.

We've had a very wet spring and I'm old enough now that I am curious about how much rainfall we get. This is a useful rain gauge, you just have to position it correctly so you can more easily read it against the piece of blue metal. I like that it can be placed pretty much anywhere without needing to be mounted, so I can get it far enough out from the overhang of the tree canopy. I just have to make sure that I bring the glass tube inside when it gets cold out, at least out of precaution because I had another glass rain gauge that shattered when the temperature dropped.

This is the best rain gauge that I've personally owned. I've owned various others and none have lasted very long (I always thought that I shouldn't spend the extra money on something that performs such a very basic function and always ended up regretting it). The glass on this gauge is thick and the measurement lines (both inches and centimeters) are large, easy to read and relatively accurate. The metal stand is sturdy enough to hold the gauge securely in the ground and is very simple to assemble and install. The gauge and stand blend well into my landscape without any unnecessary frills.A very good all-round rain gauge. Highly recommend this one!

Our location receives a great deal of rain. Unfortunately, we live in the rural mountainous exurbs of a major city. The weather segments on the local news mention our area but concentrate on the city and closer-in suburbs. Therefore, we never really know how much rainfall we receive.I began looking for a rain gauge to keep track of our local rainfall, but most were cheaply made plastic. Then I saw this Suggant Glass Rain Gauge with Metal Stake and ordered it right away. When the stake is assembled, the rain gauge stands almost 30 inches tall. The sturdy stake keeps the gauge upright for accurate readings. The blue strip reflects into the collected rainwater for an easy visual reading (Note: my photo does not show the "blue water," but viewing from the front of the gauge does!). The glass collection tube will not fade and degrade like a plastic one might in the natural elements and should last for a long time. This gauge is exactly what I was looking for!

This is a nice-looking rain gauge that includes everything you need to set it up in your yard. It has a metal stand with two spikes at the bottom, so it's easy to install it in the ground. The metal is a coppery color that looks very nice. The glass gauge is large and is easy to read because it has large numbers and markings, with inches marked on the left-hand side and centimeters marked on the right-hand side. The glass is nicely thick but not overly thick. Our last rain gauge was plastic which cracked from the sun (it didn't even fall or get hit on anything), so I'm hoping glass will hold up better, although of course glass is breakable. The metal stand comes in two sections; all you have to do is screw them together and it's ready to place in your yard by sticking the forked end into the ground. This is a convenient design because it lets you place the gauge in a good location to catch rain, because for the most accurate measurements, the gauge should be out in the open, not sheltered under trees or eaves, next to walls or anywhere that would block rain from entering the gauge. Rather than putting it in the ground, we ended up removing the forked half of the pole and inserted the top (straight) half of the pole into a hollow fence post that no longer has a finial. The pole slid right in and it holds the rain gauge securely. But it's great this has the free-standing pole you can place in the ground, so you don't have to find a way to fasten or hang the gauge to some sort of structure in your yard.Overall, this is a simple rain gauge, but it has features I need and appreciate, including that it can be placed anywhere on your property and is large and easy to read.

Unfortunately, the first one arrived in less than pristine condition -- Glass tends to be that way. However, obtaining a replacement was fairly painless and took just 2 days. After having plastic rain gauges, which clouded up after a few years due to sun exposure, this glass gauge seemed to be just the ticket. Yes, it will be more fragile but that just means using proper care when handling it.The blue strip is magnified by the rainwater in the tube. This makes the water appear blue. Which makes reading the gauge a snap. The ground bracket looks to be very serviceable. However, this one will be mounted on a deck rail using just the upper portion of the bracket. If you have larger potted plants on a deck or patio, the ground mount might work in those. Just remember, the glass portion needs stability in order to survive.

Not sure how to attach the base piece to the middle section since they are both female threads.
