Immediate gratification. Setup took no more than 2-3 minutes. Lawn care and water dispatch at your finger tips. Programmed a new water cycle on the app in seconds rather than half an hour doing it at the controller manually. Why didn't anyone show me this item sooner!!!!!! Worth every shiny cent! #takemymoney

Installation was quick and easy! It’s worth the money just to have a better interface with the controller to set watering days and times. The app is easy to use and clear simple instructions. This was a great buy for me! No more frustration with programming the sprinklers!

Raccomandato!

I guess that the only thing I can say is “why didn’t I buy this three years ago?” Setup was a breeze and now instead of standing in front of the control panel pressing buttons repeatedly to set times, watering days, zones, etc. etc., I can accomplish all of this from my easy chair in a couple of minutes. Better yet, when I’m in the yard and want to test a zone I don’t have to run back and forth to and from the garage to turn zones on and off.Works with a free APP available in the App Store. This is a must have WiFi addition to your smart home toys and apps.

UPDATE:It is now working as expected. Today, I installed a WiFi extender 10 feet away from the outside Rainbird unit and the signal was still weak, BUT it did work. My neighbors have the same exact house and rainbird unit and their WiFi extender is also 10’ away from the rainbird unit and their’s is working. You won’t know if it will work until it doesn’t, but if it does work, it is worth it.The rainbird app is just OK. We’ve all grown accustomed to things being intuitive. The rainbird app (now that I can use it) is barely functional. It could be way easier to schedule on/off times. It is something you can figure out though.WiFi has to be amazing at your house for this to work. I have 1000 Mbps fiber, and a WiFi extender one room over from the irrigation panel outside and this still only works 10% of the time. 2.4GHz signal on my phone is full bars, but this WiFi module will not connect.

The WiFi is a little weak as other reviewers have noted. However, it has never failed to connect for me. I have a stucco/coquina house that is wrapped in metal sheathing effectively creating a Faraday Cage and it still works fine. The downside is the not the device, but the Rain Bird app. It needs work. Not at all intuitive. I've used it dozens of times and each time have to fumble around in it to find the feature I need. It is usable but a pain.

I found this to be fairly easy to set up once I got it figured out. The interface to the app is good & gives you a lot of data at the palm of your hand instead of going to the unit every time you need to change something. There's been many times I have been at work, or wanted to change something, & can do it in an instant. In fact today it was pouring down early this morning & I realized I had it set to run. Instead of having to get up, get in the garage, open the panel, turn the settings, I got on the app, undid Sunday, chose another day, & that was it. For the convenience, it's really worth it.

Setup:I was almost scared off by the reviews, because this thing is 83 bucks (Oct 2019). The key thing is to make sure you have a strong signal at the controller which is easy to check using the Settings>WiFi function on your cell phone standing next to the controller. I showed a strong signal but was still worried by the reviews. Make sure you are looking at the 2.4 ghz side of your router when you are checking…the device is not compatible with 5ghz.I took the plunge and ordered it. It came in 20 hours to my door. I expected to spend the rest of the evening working out router and communications issues. Poof! It worked instantly, no issues. I have since throroughly tested the functionality of the app. And I have loaded it on multiple devices. (see my answers to the questions section on how to do this). Works perfectly. This has to be the easiest plug and play I ever experienced. The whole process took less than 5 minutes.Setup Instructions and Tips:1. You don’t need a superman signal but you do need a good signal ( no lower than ~70db).2. You have to understand that this is a very small device. The antenna is not going to reach 4 houses down.3. Check your signal strength at the controller using your cell phone BEFORE you buy. This will help you determine if you need a booster or need to change the location of your router, etc.4. Load the app on your device before you do ANyTHING else.5. Insert the module into the accessory port in the back of your panel. You don’t need to turn anything off to do this.6. Mine started blinking alternately red and green in a few seconds (thats what you want and tell you that the module is up and broadcasting) I did not have to press the hotspot button on the module to do this, plugging it in activated it. If you don’t get the alternating red and green lights within 30 seconds, either press the hotspot button on the device or unplug at and plug it back in again.7. On your device in WiFi settings, locate the RAINBIRD hotspot and connect to it.8. Open the RAINBIRD app and follow the instructions to connect to your home wifi router. When that is done, your device will automatically disconnect from the hotspot and reconnect to your home router where you can talk to the app.9. Open the RAINBIRD app on your device and follow the setup wizard to complete the controller configuration.Review: Pros: Installation was flawless. I discovered how to add multiple devices using the guest access function (so you don’t have to go through the above steps for additional devices). I like how guess access never reveals your password to others and how the 24 and 48 hour access expires. This is very handy for your serviceman or neighbor when you are away. Use the Permanent Access for adding your own personal devices for your own use.The EPA watersense (for use with rain sensor and internet weather info on your zip code) is an excellent option to save you money if you want it. Once my lawn gets fully established I will use it, but for now I have it off and just rely on my rain sensor to tell my controller weather to water or not. The Seasonal Adjust option in this app is where the real power savings are if you want to use it.The app downloads the configuration that is currently on the controller every time you access it. This eliminates and sync issues when using multiple devices. Awesome feature.Good override and manual options, good programming options, almost full functionality of the controller remotely. Well worth it. Can program and operate from anywhere in the world.Cons:1. You cannot turn the controller off and on using remote. But you can stop watering and change programming and even wipe out a program if you want to.2. I set the notifications for every option but I never receive notifications either on my device or email, or anything.3. I understand from internet chatter there is little chance the company will update firmware with new features, which is either a blessing or a curse, depending on your experience.4. It costs 83 freakin dollars. But it works and will pay for itself if you allow it to use proper water management for you.5. Although I did not experience any connectivity issues myself, the small antenna requires a reliable moderate to strong signal (can tolerate up to ~70 db or so).Recommendation:Purchase if you want or need remote capability for any reason. If you don’t need it, don’t get it just to have it, it is an expensive toy if you’re not going to use it. I like being able to give temporary access to my service guy and family, I like knowing if it watered today (rain sensor). I like knowing I can shut off or stop any program remotely in case there is an issue. Also, if the pest guy or lawn mower guys, or whoever shows up, I can stop the sprinklers from wherever I am. Especially if I'm on a cruise! :)
