Bought this to assist the tedious priming of cases. Well put together very easy to use. Priming cases has become much more productive and easy. Basically dump primers in, give it a shake to orient them and start priming.

This is hands down the best hand primer and one of my favourite reloading tools and excellent value for money. I have loaded everything from .223 Rem to .338 Lapua Magnum with this and in fact I now have two of them so I can leave one of each permanently set to LRP and SRP. You can sit in front of the TV or practically anywhere and prime cases. Quality build and no messing about with different shell holders some of which are not compatible unless you are using that brand of hand primer's shell holders. Can't speak highly enough of these as they have made priming easier and faster.

Very smooth seating of primers, even with the slightly oversized ginex small rifle primers. Primer tray flips primers easily but primers slide around easily without flipping back over. This is easily 100 times better than the Hornady hand primer, where the hornady would just crush hard to seat primers, this unit seats them easily, though the rcbs seems to have more leverage. I Think the size of the anvil for the rcbs is larger and supports the primer better, and has better alignment than the Hornady. The rcbs is just a better made/engineered product. Hopefully it lasts because it works well.

Switching primer size is a snap, square primer feed has a feed block to prevent spilling, and the primer install can be felt and controlled. Great product support. The spring system makes it easy to accommodate multiple size cases. I Broke a plastic piece and needed but to call RCBS and the part was sent right out w/o charge.Much better design than the original, the size fixtures can be changed w/o the whole unit coming apart.Recommend.

I've used a total of seven different priming tools since I started reloading in the 1980s. I've used two different press mounted priming tools, all three of the Lee hand priming tools, the original RCBS tool, and now this. Each has their advantages and disadvantages.Priming on the press gives you a lot of mechanical advantage- maybe too much. Feeding primers by hand (as I had to do with both press-mounted tools) is slow. The original Lee hand tool is hard on the thumb- I can't do more than 50 at a stretch- and again, loading primers individually is slow, even with a primer flipper tray. Lee priming tools require a special holder, too- you can't use the same case holders you use in your press. Lee gear is cheap, but that adds complexity. One more part to lose ;-)The improved Lee tool with a built int tray solves the problem of picking up primers by hand, but I had a problem with the primers getting stuck in the feed channel and then popping the lid off the feeder tray- and it still had the same problems as the original tool: The need for special shell holders and a tired thumb. That led me to the original RCBS tool. Lots of leverage- almost too much. Good feel, primers feed well, and easy to use. Only one real annoyance- the rod that pushes the primers in sits loosely in the tool, and if you tip it over, the rod will slide out and you'll go chasing it around the floor. I used it for a quite a while before I switched to the new Lee Ergo. The Ergo solved the tired thumb problem. It's really easy to use, and has a great feel. But it still has feeding problems and needs a special shell holder. For some reason, Lee decided to design all their hand priming tools to use a special shell holder that can't be used in loading presses. Very annoying. And that led to this tool. It's easy to use, doesn't require any shell holders, and there are no loose parts that can fall out. Instead of swapping primer seating rods to switch between large and small primers, you use an included tool to screw one of two different rod tips into a seating rod that's permanently fixed in the tool. It's a bit confusing at first, as the instructions aren't quite clear, but a glance at the exploded diagram makes everything clear. There's even a tiny setscrew that can be inserted to lock the priming rod in the upright position to make swapping tips easier. (I found it was just as easy to simply hold the tool with the lever fully depressed.)So far I like it a lot. The automatic shell holder requires a small amount of effort to snap a shell into place, but once in place it's automatically centered and won't fall out. If you keep it clean, and put a drop of lube in the appropriate place (the manual explains how and where) it's very reliable. Primer feed has been smooth, and there's a simple gate in this model that allows you to shut off primer flow- useful when removing the feed tray from the tool to avoid spilling primers. If you load more than one caliber, and especially if you load several different calibers, this is one of the best choices in a hand priming tool.
